Overview
  • What is the Young Marine Program?
  • It is a Youth education and leadership program
    for children between the ages 8 through High
    School.
  • It is a program for kids that want to be good.
    It is not a scared straight program.
  • Must I join the Marine Corps?
  • No, the program is not a recruitment program.
  • Although some activities are similar to military
    activities, children are not taught military
    warfare.

Registered Adults
  • A Registered Adult is someone that is approved to
    interact with the children during unit functions.
  • Registered Adults are volunteers that do not
    receive any compensation for their participation
    in the program.
  • All adult staff have to go through a background
    check and approval process prior to interacting
    with children.

Parents / Other Adults
  • Parents are encouraged to attend all Unit
    meetings. However, only registered adults may
    interact with the children at unit functions.
  • Parents that do attend unit meetings are asked
    not to interfere with unit functions by coaching
    or instructing their children at the meeting.
  • Occasionally we will have guest instructors. All
    of their activities are supervised by Registered
    Adults.
  • If there is a custody dispute a current copy of
    any court orders has to be on file with the unit.
  • Parents or an approved adult must be present to
    sign out the Young Marine from Unit functions.
  • All parents are encouraged to become Registered
    Adults.

  • Kids will get the discipline that they desire.
  • They are tasked with activities and earn ribbons
    for their accomplishments.
  • Their self esteem and confidence is increased.
  • They are given increasing leadership tasks
    according to their individual abilities.
  • Earn promotions by completing guide book tasks,
    testing and passing an interview.
  • All activities will aid the Young Marine later in
    life to become a leader.

Activities
  • Boot-Camp
  • A 13 week long orientation and education process.
    Each kid must meet a certain standard before
    graduating, by taking and passing a written test
    and a practical application exercise.
  • Kids learn how to march, Marine Corps History,
    Field Craft (camping), Uniform regulations, and
    much more.
  • Kids must complete an overnight camping field
    exercise.
  • Take a Physical Fitness Test, including a 1 mile
    run.
  • Must attend at least 10 of the 14 meetings.
  • Turn in weekly progress reports from school and
    home.

  • After graduating from Boot-Camp all recruits are

    within their Guide Books for future promotions
  • Tasks are completed to earn ribbons and awards.

  • Boot-Camp / Registration

  • Uniform that must be ordered (Camoflage top
    bottom, hat, boots, belt, boot-bands, shirt,
    etc..) 120.00
  • A yearly National registration of 20.00
  • Other Fees

  • Extra or replacement uniforms, ribbons, patches,
    rank insignia.
  • SPACES
  • Summer Programs and Encampments are priced
    individually.
  • Young Marines are encouraged to find sponsors for
    their activities through community involvement.

How to Join
  • First check out the program on-line at
    www.youngmarines.com or www.saltydawgyoungmarines.
    com
  • Then attend a unit meeting or boot camp
    orientation and determine if this is something
    that your child really wants to do.
  • Fill out and return your registration packet
    including your medical release and proof of
    physical.
  • Pay for your equipment issue and registration
    fees.
  • Then you are ready to join the Young Marines.
