Title: A Summary of OT Missiology

1
A Summary of OT Missiology
  • God created the world with a plan to bless
    humanity.
  • Every human being bears the imago dei and is
included in the missio dei. All nations are one
    family
  • God desires to call both men and women into
partnership for the fulfillment of the missio
    dei.
  • Our first duty is to obey the mandates of God,
including the Dominion Mandate and the Great
    Commission.

2
  • Rest and satisfaction are part of the mission.
  • Gods purposes are inexorable and no enemy can
    destroy them.
  • The Promise of Eves, Abrahams, Judahs Davids,
and Gods seed, a Kinsman-redeemer for Israel and
    the Nations
  • A blood Covenant to bless all peoples will be
    finally made in Christs body.

3
  • Human Diversity is a means of grace and will last
    forever.
  • No missionary is worthy or even capable of his
task, not even Abraham. Salvation is by grace
    through faith.
  • God is forming one great universal Kingdom of
priests in the earth, in which justice and peace
    reign.
  • God contextualizes his message and so should we.
But syncretism that distorts Gods message is
    unacceptable.

4
  • Gods desire is to save, but he will punish also.
Still, punishment will be used to fulfill his
    saving purposes.
  • God will accompany those he sends in mission.
  • Obedience is the key to missionary success.
  • God will deploy his servants strategically to
    fulfill his mission.
  • God will rule from Zion, the New Jerusalem, where
he will dwell with his people forever.

Matthews Genealogy
  • The purpose of Genealogies is to tell you who
you are, where you came from, and where you are
    going.

The lines go back for 64 generations
  • through confederate soldiers, Alabama clay
    farmers, Baptist preachers, Cherokee chiefs,
    European nobles, crusaders, kings, saints,
    Vikings, conquerors, emperors, Merovingians, the
Roman Proconsul Flavius Africanus Sagrius. Some
lived in splendor, others died of starvation.
Together they made the history of Western
    Civilization.

15
In Matthews Gospel
  • the genealogy of Jesus told him much about his
    family.
  • A man born at just the right time.
  • The seed of a missionary, Abraham.
  • The scion of kings from David.
  • A family that loved and accepted
    foreigners/gentiles.

16
The women
  • Tamar
  • Rahab
  • Ruth
  • Bathsheba, wife of Uriah the Hittite
  • Mary
  • All but one, Gentiles. All saved from a bad
reputation. All sinners in need of grace. All
    in need of a Kinsman-Redeemer.

17
We can know the same thing
  • Jesus family has become our family, his
genealogy is shared by all children of Abraham
  • Galatians 329If you belong to Christ, then you
are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the
    promise.

18
The Forerunner
  • Matthew 31-3
  • 31 In those days John the Baptist came,
preaching in the Desert of Judea 2 and saying,
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." 3
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet
    Isaiah
  • "A voice of one calling in the desert,
  • 'Prepare the way for the Lord,
  • make straight paths for him.'"
  • hggiken ga\r h( basilei/a twn ou)ranwn.

19
The Gospel
  • With this announcement, the Gospel or euangelion
or Good News is born. The Good news preached
by John and Jesus was that the Kingdom of God has
    arrived.

20
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
  • Matthew 311-12
  • 11 "I baptize you with water for repentance. But
after me will come one who is more powerful than
I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will
clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat
into the barn and burning up the chaff with
    unquenchable fire."

21
Moses hope, Joels promise
  • By coming to baptize in the Spirit, Jesus will
fulfill the Old Testament missiological theme of
blessing and judgment on all nations.

22
The Beginning of Jesus Ministry
  • Matthew 412-17
  • 12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in
prison, he returned to Galilee. 17 From that time
on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the
    kingdom of heaven is near."
  • (Matthew prefers KOH, other Evangelists, KOG.)

23
The Heart of Jesus Message
  • The theme of Gods arriving Kingdom was the
heart of Jesus ministry. All of his miracles
were signs that God was arriving in power to set
the world right. The healings spoke of
salvation. The liberation from demons spoke of
the end of the kingdom of Evil.

24
Healing as sign of Salvation
  • Matthew 92-8
  • When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the
paralytic, "Take heart, son your sins are
forgiven." 3 At this, some of the teachers of
the law said to themselves, "This fellow is
blaspheming!" 4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus
said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your
hearts? 5 Which is easier to say, 'Your sins are
forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? 6 But so
that you may know that the Son of Man has
authority on earth to forgive sins. . . ." Then
he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat
and go home." 7 And the man got up and went
    home.

25
Exorcism, the Fall of Evil
  • Matthew 1226-28
  • 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided
against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?
27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by
whom do your people drive them out? So then, they
will be your judges. 28 But if I drive out demons
by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has
    come upon you.

26
The Sermon on the Mount
  • Matthew 53-12
  • 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are
the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed
are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see
God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will
be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who
are persecuted because of righteousness, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

27
The Great Reversal
  • All who have known suffering should rejoice in
the announcement of Gods Kingdom, because all
    injustice will cease.
  • As in the OT, justice and the KOG cannot be
    separated.

28
Our Kind of People
  • Luke 168-9
  • 8 "The master commended the dishonest manager
because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of
this world are more shrewd in dealing with their
own kind than are the people of the light. 9 I
tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for
yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be
    welcomed into eternal dwellings.

29
Who are they?
  • Luke 620-21 Blessed are you who are poor, for
yours is the kingdom of God.
  • Matt 112-6 Go back and report to John what you
hear and see 5 The blind receive sight, the lame
walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf
hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is
    preached to the poor.
  • Luke 1412-14 12 Then Jesus said to his host,
"When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not
invite your friends, your brothers or relatives,
or your rich neighbors if you do, they may
invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But
when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the
crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be
blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will
be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

30
  • Luke 1810-14 "Two men went up to the temple to
pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax
collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed
about himself 'God, I thank you that I am not
    like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or
even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a
week and give a tenth of all I get.' 13 "But the
tax collector stood at a distance. He would not
even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and
said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' 14 "I
tell you that this man, rather than the other,
went home justified before God. For everyone who
exalts himself will be humbled, and he who
    humbles himself will be exalted."
  • THESE ARE OUR KIND OF PEOPLE.

31
Use worldly wealth
  • Jesus wants to see us use worldly wealth to
spread the Gospel to our kind of peoplethose who
hear the announcement of the Kingdom as Good
Newsso that they will welcome us into heavenly
    dwellings.
  • The Basis of Missionary Fundraising!

32
The Parables of the Kingdom
  • Jesus main way of discussing the Kingdom was
    through the use of parables.

33
"The kingdom of heaven is like
  • Matt 1324 a man who sowed good seed in his
    field. Wheat and tares!
  • Matt 1331 a mustard seed, which a man took and
    planted in his field. Growth!
  • Matt 1333 yeast that a woman took and mixed
into a large amount of flour until it worked all
    through the dough." Influence!

34
  • Matt 1352 the owner of a house who brings out
of his storeroom new treasures as well as old."
  • Matt 1823 like a king who wanted to settle
accounts with his servants. We must forgive!
  • Matt 201-2 a landowner who went out early in
the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard.
Last in, same as the first!
  • Matt 222 a king who prepared a wedding banquet
for his son. All are welcome, but must come
    prepared!

35
A Paradigmatic Passage
  • Matt 935-101
  • 35 Jesus went through all the towns and
villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching
the good news of the kingdom and healing every
    disease and sickness.

36
Compassion
  • 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on
them, because they were harassed and helpless,
    like sheep without a shepherd.

37
The Workers are Few
  • 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest
is plentiful but the workers are few.

38
Prayer
  • 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to
send out workers into his harvest field.
  • Jesus is found praying alone throughout the
Gospels. Obedience is crucial, and God desires
to direct and strengthen and be with us.

39
Authority to do the same works
  • 101 He called his twelve disciples to him and
gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and
to heal every disease and sickness.
  • (935 Jesus went through all the towns and
villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching
the good news of the kingdom and healing every
    disease and sickness.)

40
The Involvement of humanity
  • Jesus selection of his disciples and the sharing
of his authority with him picks up the theme of
Genesis 1 that reveals that Gods plan involves
the calling and deployment of human beings.

41
The inclusion of the Gentiles
  • Matthew 29-11
  • 9 After they had heard the king, they went on
their way, and the star they had seen in the east
went ahead of them until it stopped over the
place where the child was. 10 When they saw the
star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the
house, they saw the child with his mother Mary,
and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they
opened their treasures and presented him with
gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

42
Luke 228-32
  • 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God,
saying 29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my
eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have
prepared in the sight of all people, 32 a light
for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to
    your people Israel."

43
Matt 1017-19
  • 17 "Be on your guard against men they will hand
you over to the local councils and flog you in
their synagogues. 18 On my account you will be
brought before governors and kings as witnesses
to them and to the Gentiles.

44
Luke 76-9
  • He was not far from the house when the centurion
sent friends to say to him "Lord, don't trouble
yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come
under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even
consider myself worthy to come to you. But say
the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For
I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers
under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes and
that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my
servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." 9 When Jesus
heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to
the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I
have not found such great faith even in Israel."
10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the
house and found the servant well.

45
Luke 2347-48
  • 47 The centurion, seeing what had happened,
praised God and said, "Surely this was a
    righteous man.

46
Matthew 1522-28
  • 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to
him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy
on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from
    demon-possession." 23 Jesus did not answer a
word. So his disciples came to him and urged him,
"Send her away, for she keeps crying out after
us." 24 He answered, "I was sent only to the lost
sheep of Israel." 25 The woman came and knelt
before him. "Lord, help me!" she said. 26 He
replied, "It is not right to take the children's
bread and toss it to their dogs." 27 "Yes,
Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the
crumbs that fall from their masters' table." 28
Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great
faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter
was healed from that very hour.

47
Matthew 2142-44
  • 42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in
    the Scriptures
  • "'The stone the builders rejected
  • has become the capstone
  • the Lord has done this,
  • and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
  • 43 "Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God
will be taken away from you and given to a people
    who will produce its fruit.

48
John 112
  • 10 He was in the world, and though the world was
made through him, the world did not recognize
him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but
his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who
received him, to those who believed in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God- 13
children born not of natural descent, nor of
human decision or a husband's will, but born of
    God.
  • True Israel is those who have believed in Jesus
    our Kinsman-redeemer.

49
John 316-17
  • 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his
one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For
God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but to save the world through
    him.
  • Kosmos occurs 36 times in John.

50
The Eschatology of Missio Dei
  • Matthew 249-14
  • 9 "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted
and put to death, and you will be hated by all
nations because of me. 10 At that time many will
turn away from the faith and will betray and hate
each other, 11 and many false prophets will
appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the
increase of wickedness, the love of most will
grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end
will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom
will be preached in the whole world as a
testimony to all nations, and then the end will
    come.

51
The Great Commission
  • Matthew 2816-20
  • 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to
the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17
When they saw him, they worshiped him but some
doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said,
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20
and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age."
  • Jesus Kingly Authority guarantees our success.

52
Mark 1615-18
  • 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and
preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but
whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17
And these signs will accompany those who believe
In my name they will drive out demons they will
speak in new tongues 18 they will pick up snakes
with their hands and when they drink deadly
poison, it will not hurt them at all they will
place their hands on sick people, and they will
    get well."
  • Holy Spirit Power will accompany us.

53
Luke 2446-49
  • 46 He told them, "This is what is written The
Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the
third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of
sins will be preached in his name to all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of
these things. 49 I am going to send you what my
Father has promised but stay in the city until
you have been clothed with power from on high."

54
Missio Dei
  • In the Acts of the Apostles

55
Acts 14-8
  • 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with
them, he gave them this command "Do not leave
Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father
promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5
For John baptized with water, but in a few days
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." 6 So
when they met together, they asked him, "Lord,
are you at this time going to restore the kingdom
to Israel?" 7 He said to them "It is not for you
to know the times or dates the Father has set by
his own authority. 8 But you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will
be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

56
Pentecost
  • Acts 21-4
  • 21 When the day of Pentecost came, they were
all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound
like the blowing of a violent wind came from
heaven and filled the whole house where they were
sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of
them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the
    Spirit enabled them.

57
Acts 238-39
  • 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every
one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is
for you and your children and for all who are far
off-for all whom the Lord our God will call."

58
Some Principles
  • It is for everyone.
  • It is the Promise of the Father. God wont say
    no.
  • It is accompanied by the sign of tongues.
  • It is power for witness.
  • The power is personal. You will receive . . .

59
It is received by believing
  • Mark 1617And these signs will accompany those
who believe In my name they will drive out
demons they will speak in new tongues.
  • Gal 35Does God give you his Spirit and work
miracles among you because you observe the law,
or because you believe what you heard?

60
To receive tongues, you must speak
  • Acts 24
  • All of them . . . began to speak in other
tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

61
Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria
  • Acts 416-17 "What are we going to do with
these men?" they asked. "Everybody living in
Jerusalem knows they have done an outstanding
miracle, and we cannot deny it.
  • Acts 516 Crowds gathered also from the towns
around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those
tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were
    healed.

62
Who was at Pentecost?
  • Acts 25-12
  • 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem
God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came
together in bewilderment, because each one heard
them speaking in his own language. 7 Utterly
amazed, they asked "Are not all these men who
are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that
each of us hears them in his own native language?
9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites residents of
Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and
Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the
parts of Libya near Cyrene visitors from Rome
11(both Jews and converts to Judaism) Cretans
and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of
    God in our own tongues!

63
Persecution scatters the Church
  • Acts 81-2
  • On that day of Stephens death a great
persecution broke out against the church at
Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were
    scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

64
Samaria
  • Acts 84-6, 12-13
  • 4 Those who had been scattered preached the word
wherever they went. 5 Philip went down to a city
in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. . .
12 But when they believed Philip as he preached
the good news of the kingdom of God and the name
of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and
    women.

65
Ethiopia
  • Acts 826-29
  • 26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go
south to the road-the desert road-that goes down
from Jerusalem to Gaza." 27 So he started out,
and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an
important official in charge of all the treasury
of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had
gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way
home was sitting in his chariot reading the book
of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip,
"Go to that chariot and stay near it."

66
Summary
  • Acts 931 Then the church throughout Judea,
Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It
was strengthened and encouraged by the Holy
Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of
    the Lord.

67
The Conversion of Saul
  • Acts 911-16
  • 11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas
on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus
named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he
has seen a man named Ananias come and place his
hands on him to restore his sight." 13 "Lord,"
Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports
about this man and all the harm he has done to
your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here
with authority from the chief priests to arrest
all who call on your name." 15 But the Lord said
to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument
to carry my name before the Gentiles and their
kings and before the people of Israel. 16 I will
show him how much he must suffer for my name."
  • Go occurs at least 20 times as an imperative
    in Acts.

68
The Household of Cornelius
  • Acts 109-13 Peter went up on the roof to
pray. . . he fell into a trance. He saw heaven
opened and something like a large sheet being let
down to earth by its four corners. It contained
all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as
reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then
a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
  • Acts 1115-18 "As I began to speak, the Holy
Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the
beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had
said 'John baptized with water, but you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit.' So if God gave
them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in
the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I
could oppose God?" 18 When they heard this, they
had no further objections and praised God,
saying, "So then, God has granted even the
    Gentiles repentance unto life."

The Antioch Church
  • Acts 131-3
  • 131 In the church at Antioch there were
prophets and teachers Barnabas, Simeon called
Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been
brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting,
the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas
and Saul for the work to which I have called
them." 3 So after they had fasted and prayed,
they placed their hands on them and sent them
    off.

Pauls First Missionary Journey
  • Acts 1313-14, 44-48
  • 13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed
to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to
return to Jerusalem. 14 From Perga they went on
to Pisidian Antioch. . . .On the next Sabbath
almost the whole city gathered to hear the word
of the Lord. 45 When the Jews saw the crowds,
they were filled with jealousy and talked
abusively against what Paul was saying. 46 Then
Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly "We had
to speak the word of God to you first. Since you
reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy
of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 47
For this is what the Lord has commanded us "'I
have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you
may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'"
48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad
and honored the word of the Lord and all who
were appointed for eternal life believed.

The Jerusalem Council
  • Acts 1513-20
  • 13 When they finished, James spoke up "Brothers,
listen to me. 14 Simon has described to us how
God at first showed his concern by taking from
the Gentiles a people for himself. 15 The words
of the prophets are in agreement with this . . .
19 "It is my judgment, therefore, that we should
not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are
    turning to God.

The Apostolic Letter
  • Acts 1523-29
  • The apostles and elders, your brothers, To the
Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia
Greetings. 24 We have heard that some went out
from us without our authorization and disturbed
you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25
So we all agreed to choose some men and send them
to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul-
26 men who have risked their lives for the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are
sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of
mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to
the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with
anything beyond the following requirements 29
You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols,
from blood, from the meat of strangled animals
and from sexual immorality. You will do well to
    avoid these things. Farewell.

Pauls Second Missionary Journey
  • Acts 166-10
  • Paul and his companions traveled throughout the
region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept
by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the
province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border
of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the
Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So
they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of
Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to
Macedonia and help us." 10 After Paul had seen
the vision, we got ready at once to leave for
Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to
    preach the gospel to them.

To the uttermostRome
  • Acts 2311
  • 11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul
and said, "Take courage! As you have testified
about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify
    in Rome."

Audience among the Gentiles
  • Acts 2821-30
  • 21 They replied, "We have not received any
letters from Judea concerning you, and none of
the brothers who have come from there has
reported or said anything bad about you. 22 But
we want to hear what your views are, for we know
that people everywhere are talking against this
sect." 23 They arranged to meet Paul on a certain
day, and came in even larger numbers to the place
where he was staying. From morning till evening
he explained and declared to them the kingdom of
God and tried to convince them about Jesus from
the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. 24 Some
were convinced by what he said, but others would
    not believe.

78
  • 25 They disagreed among themselves and began to
leave after Paul had made this final statement
"The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your
forefathers when he said through Isaiah the
prophet 26 "'Go to this people and say, "You
will be ever hearing but never understanding you
will be ever seeing but never perceiving." 27 For
this people's heart has become calloused they
hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed
their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their
eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their
hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' 28
"Therefore I want you to know that God's
salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they
will listen!" 30 For two whole years Paul stayed
there in his own rented house and welcomed all
who came to see him. 31 Boldly and without
hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and
taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.
