  • Technology was originally created by Eastman
    Kodak for thin film measurement.
  • How Does it Work?
  • Infrared light is emitted from luminescent diode.
  • Beam travels through all layers of material and
    is reflected back to optical sensor in the probe.
  • Highly Accurate Results are generated in
    real-time.
  • Layers are displayed in top to bottom order.

How to Read The Screens
  • Diagnostic Screen
  • IR Light from the probe generates energy peaks
    from individual layers of film. The peaks are
    the separate surfaces (top surface, interior
    surfaces/interfaces, bottom surface) that make up
    the film.
  • The distance between peaks represents thickness
    the red marker lines aid in identifying the
    middle of the curves.
  • On the screen below, there are five surfaces (red
    lines) that comprise four separate layers of
    material.

  • Mean/min/max thicknesses
  • Optical Thickness the thickness of the film as
    if it had a Refractive Index of 1.0 ? user needs
    to enter actual RI of the plastic for an accurate
    reading.

    materials
  • Refractive index of the material being measured
    (user entry)
  • Max thickness ? individual layer thickness
  • Total Material ? cumulative thickness of material
  • From this information, it is relatively easy to
