Public or Private Companies?

• Public /listed/quoted companies must satisfy
  Exchange listing rules to be listed on Stock
  Exchanges
• Private /unlisted companies/proprietary In
  Australia may have share capital (with a
  membership of not less than two shareholders, and
  not more than 50 shareholders), but is prohibited
  from making an invitation to the public to
  subscribe to shares.
• All registered Australian companies - including
  unlisted companies, have a responsibility to
  supply certain information to the Australian
  Securities Investment Commission (ASIC) - e.g.
  previous names, if a company is up to date in
  lodging its annual return, ABN etc.
