SharePoint what is it?

• -Microsoft Windows network product. Server-based
  (not workstation)
• Web-based collaboration tool
• easy for users to post content (unlike websites)
• share documents track versions create surveys,
  discussion forums, wikis, calendars
• fine-grained permissions for read, write, edit,
  delete, design
• integrated with Active Directory no anonymity
• An extensive database front-end (ASP.net) to a
  SQL 2005 back-end
• Office 2007 recommended but not required

• MOSS Microsoft Office SharePoint Server
  (licensed server product)

Lessons Learned So Far

• A SharePoint site needs a manager
• Keep to a consistent site design
• Easy for sites to spiral out of control
• Keep the Quick Launch pane lean
• Keep naming and organization consistent in
  subsites
• Expect organization to change as the site grows
• Plan out the site organization talk to users,
  figure out what they need
