Seminar goals
  • Impact on learning
  • The overarching goal of the seminar is to help
    student teachers articulate their impact on
    student learning. In addition, the seminar will
    provide
  • specific examples of activities and work for
    discussion throughout the student teaching
    experience,
  • a summative performance assessment of the student
    teachers preparation,
  • evaluative data on the quality of the academic
    program(s), and
  • Materials that can be included in individual
    portfolios used in a job interview

  • The following activities outline the seminar
  • Journal
  • Submitted weekly to the university supervisor
  • Instructional Snapshot
  • Submitted twice to the university supervisor
    once before and once after midterm
  • Culminating Activity
  • Work completed throughout the experience
  • Activities completed prior to the final
    conference
  • Portfolio shared with the Student Teaching Office

  • Reflect critically on the student teaching
    experience
  • insightful analysis of events
  • simple diary of what happened
  • University supervisor will formally evaluate two
    of these reflections, they
  • may recommend a specific order of topics for the
    journal
  • may provide alternate topics for reflection, or
  • may ask the student teacher to create their own
    topic based on a unique experience
  • will communicate the means and format for
    submitting journal assignments

  • Based on work that has been completed in the
    classroom
  • Completed once before midterm and once after
    midterm
  • Includes the sample lesson plan and reflections
    on
  • Strengths,
  • Weaknesses, and
  • Ideas for improvement
  • Evaluated by the university supervisor

  • Culminating Activity
  • In depth critical analysis of one complete unit
    of instruction designed and delivered during the
    student teaching experience.
  • Topic to be selected in collaboration with the
    supervising teacher
  • Must represent a minimum of one weeks
    instruction
  • Submitted to both supervisors prior to the final
    conference
  • Submitted electronically to the Student Teaching
    Office prior to the end of the semester

  • Seminar Scoring Guide from the university
    supervisor

Seminar evaluation
  • To complete the seminar satisfactorily
  • Before Midterm
  • All weekly journals submitted on a timely basis
  • One instructional snapshot completed
  • Final draft of the unit plan available for
    discussion during the midterm conference
  • After Midterm
  • All weekly journals submitted on a timely basis
  • Second instructional snapshot complete
  • Final draft of the critical analysis available
    for discussion during the final conference

  • Staying on schedule is a part of your final grade
  • Scoring
  • 150 Points Possible
  • 9 for timeliness
  • 24 for journals
  • 42 for snapshots
  • 75 for the culminating activity

  • Technical Specifications
  • The electronic space to submit your final
    materials to the Student Teaching Office will be
    announced
  • Digitizing Materials
  • Use a scanner at 72 DPI to reduce file size
  • OR take a digital photo of the artifact
  • OR include written descriptions of the artifacts
    if there is no way to create an image
