2DOES HIV/AIDS AFFECT WOMEN DIFFERENTLY THAN
MEN?ARE MEN OR WOMEN MORE AT RISK OF CATCHING
HIV? IF SO HOW AND WHY?
- Both men and women are at risk of contracting the
virus as long as they are sexually active or
exposed to it.
3WHO IS MORE VULNERABLE TO ACQUIRING HIV IN YOUR
COUNTRY? MEN, WOMEN, CHILDREN, YOUTH,WHAT AGE?
WHY ARE THEY MOST AT RISK?
- The youth is more vulnerable because
- of their increased sexual activities
- of their lack of knowledge of the disease and how
deadly it is. - most adults take advantage of them.
4WHAT EFFECT HAS HIV/AIDS HAD ON YOUR COMMUNITY?
- It has broken up the culture especially with
regards to extended families. - It is a taboo in my culture to suffer from
HIV/AIDS and you are definitely rejected from the
society and from your beloved ones.
5WHAT EFFECT HAS HIV/AIDS HAD ON LIFE EXPECTANCY
IN MY COUNTRY?
- Life expectancy has drastically decreased from
approximately 65years down to 35 years.
6WHAT ARE THE ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF HIV/AIDS?
- HIV/AIDS has affected the economy of our country
since it has affected the economically active age
group(19-55 years). - More economic resources are being spent on
HIV/AIDS research in the bid to find a cure. -
7HIV/AIDS TESTING
- One can be tested for HIV/AIDS.
- It is important for one to be tested for HIV/AIDS
so as to know ones status to avoid spreading the
disease to others unknowingly. - It is quite easy to get tested for HIV/AIDS,
however the testing centers are confined to
urban areas only. - If someone is worried that they might have been
exposed to HIV/AIDS they should get tested
immediately. - It takes approximately 1-2 weeks to get your
HIV/AIDS results.
8WHAT SHOULD SOMEONE WITH HIV DO TO PROLONG THEIR
LIFE?
- One should have a balanced diet.
- Exercise regularly.
- Live under healthy conditions.
- Women should avoid falling pregnant as pregnancy
weakens the immune system. - Practice safe sex to avoid re-infection.
- Learn to live positively with HIV.
9ARE INJECTING DRUGS AN ISSUE WHERE YOU LIVE?
- Injecting drugs and tattooing are not an issue
in our community. - Piercing and sharing razor blades is quite common
where we live.
