Papunya and Town Bore Interschool Sport
  • PE Coordinator, Mandy Hargreaves
  • visited Town Bore and Papunya
  • during the holiday period and was able to
  • conduct Basketball clinics with the students
  • and Holiday Program worker, Claire McEwan

  • Whilst she was there, Mandy also met with
  • Erica Prosser the Principal of Papunya
  • School and explained the School Sport NT
  • Program to her.
  • They explored ways of involving remote
  • students in the Exchange and Championship
  • Program at the Cluster Level.

  • One of the perennial difficulties, which
  • preclude remote involvement, is the lack of
  • transport.
  • Fortunately the schools were able to take
  • advantage of the funding provided by the
  • School Sport NT Desert Storm Cluster to
  • charter the Bush Bus and to stay at the
  • Heavitree Gap Resort.

  • Belinda Pearson, Assistant Principal at
  • Braitling School, took up Mandys offer of
  • Interschool Sport and as a result, three
  • different classes, totalling over 60 students
  • participated in the Exchange as well as
  • 15 Papunya Students and
  • 3 Town Bore Students

  • Tuesday 21st November
  • Interschool Athletics with Braitling Primary
    School.
  • Coaches Chris and Joel Goldring, Claire McEwan,
    Chris Brokensha and Mandy Hargreaves conducted
    javelin, high jump, shot put, and long jump
    sessions
  • Papunya and Town Bore students then went to the
    Gap
  • Youth Centre and did Aerobic Dance and learned
    about
  • Maori Culture as well as learning how to do the
    Haka.
  • Thanks to Nga Mataruarua for his enthusiastic
    teaching!

  • Café and learned about the Deadly Mob project
    that
  • involves the Papunya community.
  • Next they travelled to Bradshaw School where they
    did a
  • Jump Rope for Heart Clinic along with students
    from
  • Willowra and Ukuka

  • After recess the Community kids joined with
    Braitling and
  • Undertook a Hip Hop workshop, facilitated by MC
    Ashley
  • McDonell.
  • It was brilliant to see how the students came
    together to
  • compose a rap song which they put to music and
    sang and
  • recorded.

The Rap!
  • We came by Bush Bus to Alice Town
  • To have a look around
  • With Braitling we found
  • The ball courts were brown and the balls were
    round
  • And the whistle Nerida blew
  • Made a loud sound.
  • The next day on Wednesday at the velodrome we
    played
  • When it was time to go the kids said No - we
    wanna stay
  • cause the bikes are fast.
