Informational Items
  • Internet Safety
  • Parents can use technology to their advantage by
looking up chat lingo, text acronyms, and
internet safety tips. You can also access sites
that offer good internet rules for your family to
adopt and offer internet violation reporting
    sites as well.
  • Gain access to Facebook and MySpace to monitor
your children. If you are unsure if they have a
page of their own, use your history (open the
internet and hit Control H) to check where your
    child has been visiting.
  • Always check the task bar to see what your child
is working on and be sure to keep your computer
in a visible area. NO BEDROOM COMPUTERS!
  • Know your childs screen name and the data in
their profile. Be sure that they understand what
types of profiles and conversation give away too
much information about them, which could risk
    their safety.
  • Show your child that someone could be portraying
someone that theyre not on the internet.
  • Cut and paste a picture of someone younger than
they are to befriend your child, etc.
  • Be aware of the capabilities of cell phones with
    internet and camera capabilities.
  • Make up a code word for your child so that you
can pick them up from a situation that might be
potentially unsafe due to internet, camera
    phones, etc.
  • Encourage them to be open and communicate with
    you!
