Title: Newsstreak Brick Project

1
Newsstreak Brick Project
  • Project Proposal
  • November 19, 2002

2
Purpose
  • Journalism students sought a community service
project that would help unite the community
concerning the building of our new high school.
The Newsstreak staff feels this fundraiser is a
way for the students to get involved and leave
their mark on the future Harrisonburg High
School. The bricks will be used for both
    function and aesthetic purposes, incorporating
students and community members in the
    construction of the school.

PROFITS
  • Ultimately, we want students to benefit from the
funds raised by this project. Therefore, we
propose that the profits be spent in the
    following manner
  • 50 of the profits will be donated to the
    Harrisonburg City Schools Educational Foundation.
The money will help to cover educational
purposes that are not covered in the budget.
    Ideas include
  • Guest speakers for conferences such as the
    Biotech symposium
  • Mini-grants for teachers to use in individual
    classroom projects
  • Scholarships for students
  • Contributions toward the cost of field trips

PROFITS
  • 25 of the profits will be spent on projects for
the new high school. Suggestions include
  • Signs marking a designated student section in the
    football stadium
  • An improved alumni wall
  • Clean, user-friendly bathrooms
  • Pond/fountain for courtyard area
  • A designated student lounge/teen center which
    would include
  • Tables and chairs for studying
  • Vending machines
  • Computer access
  • Area for entertainment purposes (TV, games, etc.)

8
PROFITS
  • 25 of the profits will be spent on the news
journalism classroom to benefit the students and
the program that is sponsoring the fundraiser.
Money from this portion will be spent towards
  • Equipment to stock our own computer lab used
    specifically by the Newsstreak staff
  • Up-to-date computer equipment and software
  • A multi-media projector
  • Computer tables and chairs
  • Laser printers (color/black and white)
