  • What is a poster?
  • A poster is simply a static, visual medium used
    to communicate ideas and messages.
  • You should let your poster do most of the
    'talking
  • However, you have to 'stand-by-your-poster'!

    eye-catching and review, review, review the final
    product.

  • 1. Keep the material simple and allow for
    artistic white space
  • 2. Use colors sparingly and with taste
  • Colors should be used only to emphasize,
    differentiate and to add interest. Do not use
    colors just to impress!
  • Do not use more than 2 font types
  • Titles and headings should appear larger than
    other text, but not too large.
  • Lettering must be at least 10mm tall.
  • Use bold 36-point or larger type, if possible. 
  • The text should also be legible from a
    distance, say from 1.5m to 2m.
  • Equations Present only the necessary and
    important ones
  • A picture is worth a thousand words
  • Graphs, diagrams and drawings should be labeled

    final poster
  • 9. Arrangement of poster should appear smooth
  • People are used to reading from left to right and
    from top to bottom.

Size 48 wide x 36 high
Helpful hint the size of the poster is set in
page setup under the File tab of power point.

Mechanics printing to pdf
  • To print a large format pdf, you must first save
    your ppt slide as a pdf
  • 1) Go to page setup,
  • 2) Select under slides sized for to custom,
  • 3) Type 48 in the width section and 32 in height
    section,
  • 4) Go to print and select save to pdf tab.
  • If you have problems, you might have to set up a
    new print setting for large format printing
  • 1) Go to page setup,
  • 2) Click on options,
  • 3) Under settings, choose custom paper size
  • 4) Choose a new setting and make the width 48,
    the height 36, and place a 0 for all the margins,
  • 5) Click on Save to save that setting,
  • 6) Highlight your new pager size, and then
    finally
  • 7) Go to print and select save to pdf tab.
