In many cases, stories can be assigned to

story that was not assigned or needs to be
assigned to additional landing pages, you can
assign those using taxonomy.
3Assign stories to multiple sections (taxonomy)
- TAXONOMY
- Taxonomy is assigned one of three ways
- Through Jazbox packages
- Through Jazbox properties pull-down
- Manually through SAXO
- You can always assign taxonomy manually.
- Taxonomy is the last section under the Keywords
tab. - Either search for the keyword or click Choose
from list - Open the main category by clicking the plus
sign. - Check the keywords you want.
- Click Apply
- Click OK.
4Assign stories to multiple sections (taxonomy)
Using multi-edit
- TAXONOMY
- If you have multiple stories in one articlelist
that need to be assigned the same Taxonomy, use
the Multi-edit function. - From articlelist, check the box to select the
story. - Click Multi edit
5Assign stories to multiple sections (taxonomy)
Using multi-edit
- Multi edit
- From this screen you can
- Select one Taxonomy
- Select one keyword
- Select one theme
- Change the publish date
- Change the category
- Add a forum, delete a forum
- Whatever you do will affect all of the stories
you selected in the articlelist.
Multi-edit is a fast way to assign one taxonomy
to multiple stories.
6Edit the story
- Rewrite headline to work better on Web site
(provide context, location, etc.)
7Edit the story Find it
Below is the editorial tool bar. To get to this
toolbar, you must click on the word EDITORIAL.
From this toolbar, you may Access all of the
articles in SAXoTECH Online (Archive). Access
todays articles (Articlelist) Create a new
article (New article) Manage photo galleries

articles. - From the main Articlelist you can determine

already been assigned.
9Edit the story Find it
10Edit the story Find it
You can also filter your view by category.
Chances are you can only do so by your major
categories (usually corresponding with you
top-level site navigation)News, Sports,
Opinion, Life, Entertainment, Video Make sure to
click Filter after youve selected the category.
11Edit the story Open the story
To edit the article, click on the arrow to
open the article.
Clicking the blue headline link will NOT open the
story for editing, contrary to common usage.
Instead, it opens a preview of the story in a new
browser window (or tab, depending on your
browser).
12Edit the story
Click on the Edit tab to get to story headline,
body, etc. Remember to fix the date, and if you
are updating a story to uncheck retain date
before you save the story out.
13Edit the Story
If youd like to preserve the headline that came
over from print (seen here in the Title field)
for later use, you can write a new online-only
headline in the Net title field.
Byline does not require the By. Just use the
writers name. Publication credit goes in the
Bylineextra field
This story was imported from Jazzbox. The editor
at this point also may make changes to the copy
(in the Paragraph field).
14Edit the story Save and preview
- PREVIEW
- If you want to preview your edits as they will
appear on the site, click PREVIEW.
SAVEAs with any computer program, you should
save as you go! Save means you can save and
keep editing. Save and Close is for when you
are finished editing, and want to move on to
another story. Cancel will close the article
without saving changes.
15Edit the story Live check
There will sometimes be a delay in viewing
changes to an article or section front. To check
them sooner, add nocache1 to the end of the URL.
16Add related content
- Find story
- Open it
- Click on the Connections tab
17Add related content Overview
The Connections Tab includes three tools which
are used to create related links. The three
tools are Internal Links used to relate the
article to other articles. Assets used to
create links to related files that are not
articles in SAXO. External Links used to
create related links using your links module
database.
Connections are powerful but they wont work
unless your newslists and templates are set-up to
recognize them. Work with the central staff on
the workflow since some of these manual
assignments can be done through Jazzbox and the
mulitifilter.
18Add related content Stories
- INTERNAL LINKS
- Used to link stories together and usually
identified as Related Links on your article
templates. - Search for older stories by a combination of the
following filters Category Time Theme
keyword Keyword Type (article or photo
gallery) and Text. - When you find your related story, simply click
the checkbox to the right and then Apply
Connections and then Close.
If you know a story is going to have a lot of
related articles over time, you might consider
creating a theme and then linking to that theme
landing page instead of having a laundry list of
related headlines after a story.
19Add related content Other Web sites
- EXTERNAL LINKS
- Used to link to Web site addresses stored in the
links module. - You can search for the link using text.
- You can also create a new link. Know in advance
that you need to categorize the new link so you
might consider creating a News Link category for
general external links. - Once you find your link or create a new one,
click the checkbox to the right under Link. Then
click Apply, then Close.
You must include the full http// or the link
will not save.
You should really think about how to use the
links module to display links throughout your
site. A little planning in organizing categories
goes a long way.
20Add related content Related headlines
- Use themes rather than Connections when the story
is ongoing, has a landing page, and a volume of
related stories.
Themes are available under the Keywords tab.
21Add related content Fact box
Go to Articlelist Find article Open it Under
Article Extras in the first screen, Check
FACTS Click EDIT
Sidebars are great Main Facts (otherwise known as
fact boxes). Jazzbox will in many cases import a
sidebar as a separate article AND as a fact box.
Make sure the sidebar is included in the article
and then delete the separate article. If its not
in the article, you can add it by following these
steps.
22Add related content Fact box
- A Main Facts box will appear to the right of the
article paragraphs. - Put in a title.
- Put in the body.
- (Ignore alignment, layout is predetermined by
the template) - Click Save, Preview and then SAVE CLOSE.
23Toggle article talkback (forum)
From Articlelist Open an existing article (or
create new one) In Properties tab, select Article
under Forum
24Add online-only content
- New Article
- To create a new article, simply click on New
article. - The same properties for an existing article
apply. - Youd create a new article in SAXO if you wanted
to bypass Jazbox.
Dont forget to change the date to the day you
want the article to publish! Creating an article
in SAXO does not put the same article in the
Jazbox database and it wont publish in the
newspaper.
25Add online-only content Breaking news
- To post a breaking news story -
- Create a new article
- Make sure you change the publish date on the
properties tab to the current day - After you enter the story, click on the Keywords
tab - Select BreakingNews in the Keywords drop-down
and click Use. - Click, Save, Preview, then Save Close.
26Create a photo gallery Overview

- The album properties window opens.
