2The following are simple strategies that can help
to promote green commuting.
When implemented, they can provide concrete ways
to improve the commuting situation at our
workplace.
3STRATEGY
Provide equitable access to services that support
green commuting
IMPLEMENTATION
- 1. Provide bike facilities (showers/change rooms
and safe bike racks). - Subsidize the purchase of bike racks through
advertising - Work in conjunction with a local organization
(YM/YWCA local BIZ group, community centres,
libraries) - 2, Establish preferential / subsidized parking
for carpoolers.

IMPLEMENTATION
Improve access to information
- 3. Ensure that employees are aware of existing
commuting options. - Provide an Internet-ready computer with access
to Winnipeg Transits Navigo system - Post Transit Telebus stop numbers and route
schedules in workplace lunchrooms - Display Cyclists Map of Winnipeg and Winnipeg
Walks books - 4. Establish a green commuting info board to
provide workplace activities - 5. Join a ride-matching program, e.g. carpool.ca
5STRATEGY
EcoPass for employees
IMPLEMENTATION
- 6. Collaborate with Winnipeg Transit to share the
EcoPass discount. - subsidy varies between 30 and 100
- 7. Create a climate that encourages the public
sector, as an employer, to implement the EcoPass
program. - Private sector and NGOs have taken the lead in
the program (represent over 75 of workplaces
that have signed onto the program 2004)

Raise awareness about the health, economic and
ecological benefits of green commuting within the
community
