What is Assistive Technology

• mechanical aids which substitute for or enhance
  the function of some physical or mental ability
  that is impaired.
• can be anything homemade, purchased off the
  shelf, modified, or commercially available which
  is used to help an individual perform some task
  of daily living

Kurzweil

• Kurzweil 3000 is thepremier reading,
  writing,and learning software forstudents with
  dyslexia,attention deficit disorder,or other
  learningdifficulties, includingphysical
  impairments orlanguage learning needs

• Kurzweil 1000 providesblind users access
  toprinted and electronicmaterials.
  Printeddocuments (after beingscanned) and
  digital files(such as eBooks oremail) are
  convertedfrom text to speech andread aloud.

  purpose of evaluating the childs specific
  needs, and if they need the use of assistive
  technology
• (Head Start and The IDEA)

• state programs - provides and pays for assistive
  devices for children
• ( School-to-work programs and Medicaid)

  only if it is classified as medically necessary.
• private loans - these include small low interest
  loans that will help buy all necessary equipment.
