What is PREP and why would I want to

3PREP is a seven week, mathematics- based,
academic enrichment program.
PREP helps you prepare for careers in fields of
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM).

Attend classes in Logic, Engineering, Computer
Science, and Problem Solving.
Listen to guest speakers from a variety of
careers in science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics.

7 8No tuition or fees are charged to students from
sponsoring school districts. If eligible, you may
receive free lunch daily and free or reduced bus
fares.
9The Texas Education Agency has authorized
participating school districts to award one
elective credit toward high school graduation for
each successfully completed summer of PREP
(pending 2008 approval).
10Students in grades 6 7
- A 90 or better average in current mathematics
class - and in science and English.
(85 or better if in honors or advanced
placement.)
- Recommendation from a mathematics teacher and
- a counselor or English teacher.
- Satisfactory conduct grades.
- An essay on why you want to participate in PREP.
11Students in grades 8, 9 10
- 85 grade in current math class and 85 or better
grade in science or English. - (80 or better if in honors or advanced
placement.)
- Recommendation from a mathematics teacher and
a counselor or English teacher.
- An essay on why you want to participate in PREP.
- Satisfactory conduct grades.
Students in the 11th grade are admitted with
special permission only. Twelfth grade students
(graduating seniors) are not eligible to attend.
