17-- a new mission statement ?
SFOS Mission Statement The School of Fisheries

19UAFs Core Purpose

-- a trifle dull..?
22Compare to Joe.
The right to freedom of choice Winning -
beating others in a good fight Encouraging
individual initiative Opportunity based on
merit no one is entitled to anything Hard
work and continuous self- improvement
Words to live (?) by but, Can we find something
in between???
23GOAL FOR TODAY -- Define who we want to be
Mission Statement Core Purpose (our
fundamental reason for existence) Core Values
(our guiding principles) Visionary Goals (where
we want to be in 5 yrs/10 yrs) Appendices
Strategic goals, action plans, priorities
24Audacious Goals are optimistic, long-term
objectives that grow out of the core values.
They provide the basis for visionary (as opposed
to tactical or strategic) planning. For example,
Sonys goal in the 1950s was to become the
company most known for changing the worldwide
poor-quality image of Japanese products. For
SFOS, we might set a goal such as to become
Alaskas (and the worlds) premier go-to source
for information about the marine environment...
Such a goal would be augmented by subsidiary
goals, by defined priorities and by recommend
actions.
