Visibility

• What you can see from behind the wheel and how
  well you can see it
• How well others, pedestrians and drivers can see
  you
• Increase visibility, reduce risk

• Ability to judge your speed and the speed of
  others
• How long it will take you to stop or others to
  stop
• Increase your ability to judge time, reduce risk

Space

• Distance between you and the objects around you
• The better you manage the space around your
  vehicle, the more risk is reduced

Search

• Search the roadway 20-30 seconds ahead
• Dont forget about the off road areas
• 1 1/2 - 2 blocks at 25-30 mph
• 1/2 mile at 50 - 65
• Have a system of searching

Identify

• Identify objects or conditions that could
  interfere with you intended path of travel
• Kids playing around the street
• Wildlife along the sides of the road

Predict

• Predict what actions or conditions on or near the
  roadway could interfere with your intended path
  of travel
• Is someone going to open a door?
• Is the wildlife going to cross the road?

Decide

• Decide what action to take 4 to 5 seconds ahead
  to control or reduce risk
• Are you going to slow down for the deer?
