Setting Up a Dreamweaver Site

Launch Dreamweaver
  • Click on the Site option
  • Click on the Define Sites option

  • Click on New
  • This will open the Site Definition Dialog Box

  • The Site Definition dialog box is divided into
    two columns
  • In the left column, select Local Info
  • In the right column, next to Site Name, enter a
    name for the site. The example shows the site
    name Sites

  • Under Category, make sure Local Info is selected
  • To the right of Local Root Folder, click on the
    folder icon and choose a folder on your drive
    where you site files will be stored.

  • In the left column select Remote Info
  • In the right column click on the down arrow
  • Select FTP

  • Next to FTP Host, enter the server name where
    your files will be published
  • (gl.umbc.edu)
  • Next to Host Directory, enter the path where you
    files will be published
  • (/afs/umbc.edu/public/www/your dept.)
  • Next to Login, enter your user name
  • Next to Password enter your password
  • At the bottom of the dialog box, click O.K.
  • Use your UMBC e-mail username and password

  • The Define Sites window will open
  • Click on the Done button

Connecting to your site
  • Click on the Connect button
  • To edit a file on your remote site, select the
    file and click the Get button
  • The Get button will download the file to the
    local directory you specified when you defined
    your site
  • After editing the file, select the file, and
    click the Put button. This will put the edited
    file back on your remote site
  • You will also use the Put button when you create
    a new local file and want to put the file on your
    remote site
