  • Reading I Isaiah 43 16-21
  • This is what the Lord says-- he who made a
way through the sea, a path through the mighty
waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the
army and reinforcements together, and they lay
there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed
out like a wick "Forget the former things do
not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new
thing! Now it springs up do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in
the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the
jackals and the owls, because I provide water in
the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give
drink to my people, my chosen, the people I
formed for myself that they may proclaim my
    praise.

  • Reading II. Philippians 38-14
  • Yes, everything else is worthless when
compared with the priceless gain of knowing
Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything
else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may
have Christ and become one with him. I no longer
count on my own goodness or my ability to obey
God's law, but I trust Christ to save me. For
God's way of making us right with himself depends
on faith. As a result, I can really know Christ
and experience the mighty power that raised him
from the dead. I can learn what it means to
suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that,
somehow, I can experience the resurrection from
the dead! I don't mean to say that I have already
achieved these things or that I have already
reached perfection! But I keep working toward
that day when I will finally be all that Christ
Jesus saved me for and wants me to be. No, dear
brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should
be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one
thing Forgetting the past and looking forward to
what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the
race and receive the prize for which God, through
Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

  • Reading III John 81-11
  • But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At
dawn he appeared again in the temple courts,
where all the people gathered around him, and he
sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law
and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in
adultery. They made her stand before the group
and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was
caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses
commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you
say?" They were using this question as a trap, in
order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus
bent down and started to write on the ground with
his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he
straightened up and said to them, "If any one of
you is without sin, let him be the first to throw
a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote
on the ground. At this, those who heard began to
go away one at a time, the older ones first,
until only Jesus was left, with the woman still
standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked
her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned
you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I
condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave
    your life of sin."
