Aims and Objectives
  • To develop a campaign for School children
    encouraging waste recycling and waste segregation
  • To bring awareness among the society about solid
    waste and its adverse impacts
  • To raise awareness through learning-by-doing
  • To promote zero waste vision and help the local
    municipalities for solid waste management

Project Area
  • 150 Schools of Lahore. 100 Private sector schools
    and 50 Government schools.
  • Schools having at least 150 on roll students.
  • School children of the age 8-16 years.

Partners and their roles
  • WWF - Pakistan
  • WWF-Pakistan is the largest conservation NGO of
    the country with a mission of
  • Protecting species and their natural habitats
  • Ensuring the use of renewable natural resources
    is sustainable
  • Promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful
    consumption of natural resources
  • Contributing to the third aspect of the mission
    solid waste is a major issue where we can prevent
    the unnecessary and wasteful consumption of
    natural resources. Recycling of solid waste is a
    major activity that can be promoted in order to
    avoid the wasteful consumption of natural
    resources.
  • WWF-P will coordinate the campaign and ensure the
    smooth running of all the tasks under the
    initiative, in collaboration with other partners.

  • Waste Busters
  • Waste Busters is a private waste collection
    company which, through its programmes, promote
    efficient waste management. As a partner of the
    campaign, they will be responsible for waste
    collection in schools that will come under this
    campaign, on weekly basis. Their personnel will
    issue a receipt to a selected coordinator,
    stating the quantity of waste generated.
  • City District Government Lahore
  • (CDGL) (Environment Department)
  • CDGL has previously been involved in
    awareness raising activities, particularly with
    students. 50 schools that fall under CDGL have
    been included in the campaign and waste bins will
    be provided to them by WWF-Pakistan.

  • Tulip Tissues
  • Tulip is a tissue brand of Packages Limited.
    Tulip is concerned about maintaining a clean
    environment that promotes public health and
    prosperity. Tulip brand believes in the welfare
    of the citizens of Pakistan and therefore has
    become a partner with WWF-Pakistan in the Zero
    Waste Pakistan campaign to encourage activities
    that contributes to a healthier Pakistan.

Activities
  • Outreach Campaign
  • Dust bins placed near the school canteen
    marked with category Glass, metal and plastic on
    one, paper in the second and organic waste in the
    third bin.
  • Literature developed for the zero waste
    campaign for schools
  • Lectures for sensitization of waste
    segregation issues

Mobilization of schools and waste collection
  • Students from all the schools identify the waste
    materials according to its category
    (Metals/Glass/Plastics, Paper, and organic), and
    to collect them in separate bins.
  • Students even bring recyclables from their homes

  • Students are provided the informative literature
    (Brochures and Activity Books)
  • Lectures and Presentations are made to the
    students initially

  • Each school will have volunteers as part of their
    environment clubs, who will be made responsible
    to supervise and coordinate the activity in their
    school
  • Waste Busters, as a partner organization will
    collect the waste on a weekly basis and a receipt
    shall be issued to the school for the amount of
    waste collected in weight.

  • A record is maintained of the receipts to
    calculate the amount of waste collected at the
    end of each month.

Inter school competition and awards for the
winners
  • The school with the highest amount of recyclables
    generated per-capita/ student will be awarded
    trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the end
    of the term.
  • If there is any extraordinary effort from nay
    student, then that student will be awarded with
    some individual prizes.
