• In 2004, Toyota achieved Zero Landfill status by
  a very methodical process of waste
  identification.

WASTE

• TMMK has significantly reduced its landfill
  volume by 16,000 tons per year.
• The only way TMMK can achieve this reduction is
  by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.
• Any person on the TMMK site is expected to
  segregate all the waste they generate into
  reusable or recyclable waste streams.

LINE SIDE PROCESS WASTE

• Commercial Solid Waste by-product generated from
  vehicle production and non-production processes
  that can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed. The
  term Process Waste does NOT refer to wastes
  that are regulated as Used Oil, Universal Waste,
  or Hazardous Waste, or Industrial non-regulated
  waste.

RECYCLING

• Recycled in 2007
• Steel 97,000 tons
• Aluminum 2,600 tons
• Plastic 2,000 tons
• Cardboard 500 tons
• Paper 30 tons
• We also recycle copper, glass, wood, electronic
  scrap, rubber, kevlar gloves and sleeves, etc.

COMPOSTING

• We process about 1.5 tons, or 500 bags, of
  Compostable Waste daily (thats 400 tons a
  year!).
• This Waste consists of café waste, R/R paper
  towels, cardboard, cotton/leather gloves, process
  wax paper, and cotton rags.

TURNING TRASH INTO TREASURE

• The Compostable Waste is transported, mixed with
  other organic waste, and loaded into TMMKs
  on-site In-Vessel Composter.
• The Waste is processed for approx 10 days, and
  then staged in windrows for 3-6 months.
