Waste Container Guideline

• Corrosive Liquids poly or glass containers
• Flammable Liquids metal or glass containers
• Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) plastic or original
  container
• Solid contaminated materials open top
  containers
• Sharps puncture proof, closed top containers
• Reuse original containers for waste collection if
  materials are compatible!!

20 Liter (20L) Container

• Used for waste liquid collection
• Cost effective and reduces waste
• Use to consolidate solventsacetone, methanol,
  xylene, toluene, etc
• Great for HPLC collection
• Order online using the Chemical Waste Collection

HPLC Quick Connect

• Container hooked up to liquid process unit (HPLC)
• Stored in SAA secondary containment
• Red Tag completed
• When full date red tag, disconnect, store in
  SAA, call for pickup within 3 days
• New container can be started (per MADEP Bureau of
  Waste Prevention, Satellite Accumulation of
  Hazardous Waste Fact Sheet, September 2005)

5 Gallon Open Top Containers

• Used for chemical waste solids
• Allows for proper collection of solid waste, such
  as Ethidium Bromide Silica Gel Chemical Rags
  Wipes

Chemical Sharps Container

• Sharps needles, plastic syringes, broken
  glassware, razors, glass plastic pipettes
• Lab Solvents
• Heavy Metals Arsenic, Selenium, Lead, Cadmium
• No rags, wipes, paper towels or vials of liquids
• Order online using the Chemical Waste Collection

Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Container

• HF Safety training is needed EHS0130c-A
• Use original container when applicable or plastic
  containers for collection of waste
• Calcium gluconate gel provided for labs using HF
  check dates on gel!!

Gas Cylinder Disposal Reminder

• Gas cylinders should be returned to BOC Gases
  (Ext. 3-4761).
• Non-returnable lecture bottles should be avoided.
  
• Departments / Lab (DLC) groups will be
  financially responsible for the disposal of
  non-returnable cylinders.
