Some Questions Miscellaneous Matters
4
Questions to Consider
According to Mark 1616, who is the HE that
shall be saved?
5
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved
but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 1616
6
Questions to Consider
According to Mark 1616, who is the HE that
shall be saved?
There is only one way this question can
legitimately be answered
7
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved
but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 1616
8
Questions to Consider
In Acts 237, when the question, What shall we
do?, was asked, what did the inquirers want to
know?
9
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in
their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest
of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we
do? Acts 237
10
Questions to Consider
In Acts 237, when the question, What shall we
do?, was asked, what did the inquirers want to
know?
Again, there is only one answer to this question
11
Questions to Consider
In First Corinthians 113, what two things are
pointed out as being necessary to be of Christ?
12
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am
of Paul and I of Apollos and I of Cephas and I
of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified
for you? or were ye baptized in the name of
Paul? I Corinthians 112,

13
Questions to Consider
In First Corinthians 113, what two things are
pointed out as being necessary to be of Christ?
1) For Christ to be crucified for you 2) For
you to be baptized in the name of Christ
14
In Order to be True
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am
of Paul and I of Apollos and I of Cephas and I
of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified
for you? or were ye baptized in the name of
Paul? I Corinthians 112,

Questions to Consider
What does the expression That he mightcleanse
it by the washing of water by the word in
Ephesians 526 mean?
17
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also
loved the church, and gave himself for it That
he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing
of water by the word,
Ephesians 525, 26
18
Questions to Consider
What does the expression That he mightcleanse
it by the washing of water by the word in
Ephesians 526 mean?
According to the vast majority of conservative
Biblical scholars it is a reference to baptism
Theres nothing else to which it can refer!
19
Questions to Consider
What is the washing of regeneration mentioned
in Titus 35?
20
Not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to his mercy he saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy
Ghost Titus
35
21
Questions to Consider
What is the washing of regeneration mentioned
in Titus 35?
Although many attempt to negate its importance,
no reputable scholars consider it to be anything
other than baptism
Nothing other than baptism fits!
22
Concerning Ephesians 526 and Titus 35, notice a
parallel with I Corinthians 1213--
23
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the
washing of water by the word,
Ephesians 526
according to his mercy he saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy
Ghost Titus 35
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one
body I Corinthians 1213
24
Concerning Ephesians 526 and Titus 35, notice a
parallel with I Corinthians 1213--
So, the washing of water, the washing of
regeneration and baptism are all the same
And, by the word, renewing of the Holy Ghost
and by one Spirit are all in reference to the
same thing
25
Questions to Consider
From what does baptism also now save us?
26
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also
now save us (not the putting away of the filth of
the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ I Peter 321
27
Questions to Consider
From what does baptism also now save us?
There can be no denying that baptism saves us
from something
What is that something?
It can be nothing other than sin!
28
Questions to Consider
From what does baptism also now save us?
It also now saves us from the same thing from
which it saved those on Pentecost
29
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in
their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest
of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we
do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 237, 38
30
Questions to Consider
From what does baptism also now save us?
It also now saves us from the same thing from
which it saved those on Pentecost
They wanted their sins remitted
Baptism was required to save them from their sins
31
If Baptism is Not a Condition of
Salvation, Please Answer the Following Questions
Why did Peter mention baptism since he was
answering the question of what to do to be saved?
(Acts 237)
32
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in
their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest
of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we
do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 237, 38
33
If Baptism is Not a Condition of
Salvation, Please Answer the Following Questions
Why did Peter mention baptism since he was
answering the question of what to do to be saved?
(Acts 237)
If salvation comes after baptism, would not
repentance also follow salvation, since they are
joined by the conjunction and?
34
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 238
35
If Baptism is Not a Condition of
Salvation, Please Answer the Following Questions
Did Christ shed His blood because men were
already saved?
NO!
Would it be false doctrine to teach that Christ
shed His blood because men were already saved?
YES!
36
If Baptism is Not a Condition of
Salvation, Please Answer the Following Questions
If for the remission of sins in Acts 238 means
because of remission, would not this same
phrase in Matthew 2628 mean because of
remission?
37
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 238
Exactly the same in English and Greek
For this is my blood of the new testament, which
is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Matthew 2628
38
If Baptism is Not a Condition of
Salvation, Please Answer the Following Questions
If for the remission of sins in Acts 238 means
because of remission, would not this same
phrase in Matthew 2628 mean because of
remission?
If salvation comes before baptism, why does Peter
say it is for the remission of sins?
39
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words,
hath one that judgeth him the word that I have
spoken, the same shall judge him in the last
day. John 1248
Those by the way side are they that hear then
cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of
their hearts, lest they should believe and be
saved. Luke 812
Then they that gladly received his word were
baptized and the same day there were added unto
them about three thousand souls.
Acts 241
40
Based Upon these Verses, Please Note the
Following Questions
Can one be saved and not receive the Word?
41
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words,
hath one that judgeth him the word that I have
spoken, the same shall judge him in the last
day. John 1248
Those by the way side are they that hear then
cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of
their hearts, lest they should believe and be
saved. Luke
812
42
Based Upon these Verses, Please Note the
Following Questions
Can one be saved and not receive the Word?
No!
Were all who received the Word on Pentecost
baptized?
43
Then they that gladly received his word were
baptized and the same day there were added unto
them about three thousand souls.
Acts 241
44
Based Upon these Verses, Please Note the
Following Questions
Can one be saved and not receive the Word?
No!
Were all who received the Word on Pentecost
baptized?
Yes!
Were there any on Pentecost who were saved who
did not first receive the Word?
No!
45
Based Upon these Verses, Please Note the
Following Questions
Does the Word (which must be received before one
can be saved) say baptized for the remission of
sins or because of the remission of sins?
How is it possible for one to be baptized as the
Word teaches, and not be baptized for the
remission of sins?
Not Possible!
46
The Conclusion That Must Be Drawn
If you were not baptized for the remission of
sins, you were not baptized as the Word teaches
and therefore you were not saved
47
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
Nothing is learned about baptism from such
passages as John 316. Why? It doesnt mention
baptism
48
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting
life. John 316
49
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
Nothing can be learned about baptism from Luke
133. Why? It doesnt mention baptism
50
I tell you, Nay but, except ye repent, ye shall
all likewise perish. Luke 133
51
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
Nothing can be learned about baptism from Romans
1010. Why? It doesnt mention baptism
52
For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation. Romans
1010
53
Since nothing is said concerning or can be
learned about baptism from such passages as John
316, Luke 133 and Romans 1010, does that mean
that baptism is not essential?
These passages do not mention the blood of Jesus
or the grace and mercy of God
Are we also to assume that these are not
essential since they are not mentioned?
54
We do learn something about salvation from John
316, Luke 133 Romans 1010 because each of
these mentions itbut none of them (nor any
other) mentions everything essential for salvation
We must keep in mind the Divine principle of the
sum of thy Word is truth (Ps. 119160)
55
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
So, what do we learn from those passages that do
mention baptism?
As we have seen in our study, we learn that
baptism
Saves
56

now save us (not the putting away of the filth of
the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be
baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the
name of the Lord. Acts 2216

Those Passages That Mention Baptism
So, what do we learn from those passages that do

As we have seen in our study, we learn that
baptism
Saves
Washes sins away
Remits sins
Puts one into Christ
62
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized
into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Romans 63
63
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
You cannot prove anything about baptism from a
passage that does not mention baptism
In order to understand what baptism does, must go
to those passages that tell what baptism does
64
One Can Learn the Purpose of Baptism Only From
Those Passages That Mention Baptism
To save your life you cannot find one thing
baptism does from a passage that does not mention
it!
In those passages that mention it, you cannot
possibly conclude that it is not essential to the
salvation of the soul!

90
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized
into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into
death that like as Christ was raised up from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life.
Romans 63, 4
91
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was
dead already, they brake not his legs But one of
the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water.
John 1933, 34
92
Objections Considered
The word for can also mean because of. So,
in Acts 238 it could mean because of the
remission of sins.
93
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 238
94
We have already studied this word eis and noticed
that it ALWAYS points forward in the sense of in
order to and NEVER backwards in the sense of
because of
To further clarify that Peter could not be
telling them to be baptized because their sins
had already been remitted, notice the context
95
1) Peter (the word) convicted them of sin (they
were pricked in their hearts)
2) They cried out, What shall we do?
3) Peter told them to repent and be baptizedfor
the remission of sins
4) He exhorts them to save yourselves
5) They that received his word were baptized
6) There were about 3000 added to them
96
1) Peter (the word) convicted them of sin (they
were pricked in their hearts)
Is it logical that they would ask what to do to
be saved (Men and brethren, what shall we do?),
and that Peter would tell them what to do because
they were already saved!
2) They cried out, What shall we do?
3) Peter told them to repent and be baptizedfor
the remission of sins
Then turn around and tell them to save
yourselves!
4) He exhorts them to save yourselves
5) They that received his word were baptized
And then say that those who received his word
were baptized and added to the body!
6) There were about 3000 added to them
97
This is how such people would have the verse read
Then Peter said unto them, Repent for the
remission of sins, and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ because your sins
are already forgiven, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.
But, this is NOT how the passage reads!
98
Objections Considered
Jesus did not say He that believeth not and is
baptized not shall be damned in Mark 1616. So,
baptism is not essential or else He would have
said this.
99
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved
but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 1616
100
In 1979, in preparation for debate, Jerry Moffitt
wrote letters to several professors in the
English departments of some leading universities
regarding grammar, syntax, word arrangement, etc.
concerning a few verses he anticipated using
during the debate. Notice his request concerning
this matter of the latter part of Mark 1616 and
the reply by an English professor at the
University of Texas
101
Moffitts letter in part reads The
question for which we are requesting assistance
concerns this sentence from the Bible He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he
that believeth not shall be condemned.
Are there rules that show how Standard English
makes use of ellipsis? In other words, when a
grammatical structure consists of two
propositions in the first half of a compound
sentence and only one of the propositions is
mentioned in the second half, is there
evidence
102
that the deleted proposition is still valid,
required, in force? Specifically, would it
be necessary to repeat and is not baptized in
the second half of the compound sentence to show
that it too is essential? Thank you for your
assistance.
103
The professors reply
Tautology- unnecessary repetition of the same
idea in different words
The fact is, however, that a semantic
implicationnot a rule of ellipsisguarantees
that he that disbelieveth shall not be
baptized for the sacrament of baptism includes a
profession of faith. Adding and is not
baptized would thus not change the meaning of
the sentencebut would be tautologus.
104
Similar sentence constructions
He that eats and digest his food will not go
hungry but he that doesnt eat will hunger.
Note that both eating and digesting are essential
to prevent hunger
However, failure to eat would automatically
exclude digestion thus, to include and doesnt
digest in the last half of the sentence would be
tautologus
105
Similar sentence constructions
He that eats and digests his food will not go
hungry but he that doesnt eat will hunger.
Would anyone argue that the omission of and
digest in the second half means that it is not
essential to preventing hunger?
Could anyone maintain that because and digest
is not in the second half of the sentence that
preventing hunger is by eating alone?
106
Similar sentence constructions
He that eats and digests his food will not go
hungry but he that doesnt eat will hunger.
Eating digesting
Essential to preventing hunger
Failure to eat
All that is needed to be hungry
107
Similar sentence constructions
He who has an A average on his tests and turns
in a 5-page term paper will receive an A for the
course but he that doesnt have an A average on
his tests will not receive an A.
Again, both having and A average on tests and
turning in the term paper are essential to
getting an overall A
However, failing to have an A test average would
automatically exclude one from having an A thus,
to include and doesnt turn in a term paper in
the last half of the sentence would be
tautologus
108
Similar sentence constructions
He who has an A average on his tests and turns
in a 5-page term paper will receive an A for the
course but he that doesnt have an A average on
his tests will not receive an A.
Could anyone maintain that because and turns in
a term paper is not in the second half of the
sentence that receiving an A would result from an
A tests average alone?
Would anyone argue that the omission of and
turns in a term paper in the second half means
that it is not essential to receiving an A for
the class?
109
Similar sentence constructions
He who has an A average on his tests and turns
in a 5-page term paper will receive an A for the
course but he that doesnt have an A average on
his tests will not receive an A.
Having an A tests average 5-page term paper
Essential to get an A for the course
Failure to have an A tests average
All that is needed to prevent having an A
110
Similar sentence constructions
He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Note that both belief and baptism are essential
to be saved
However, failure to believe would automatically
exclude ones being baptized thus, to include
and is not baptized in the last half of the
sentence would be tautologus
111
Similar sentence constructions
He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Yet, men argue that the exclusion of and is not
baptized in the second half of this sentence
means that it is not essential to being saved!
Also, men maintain that because and is not
baptized is not in the second half of the
sentence that salvation is by belief (faith)
alone!
112
Similar sentence constructions
He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Belief Baptism
Essential to being saved
Disbelief
All that is necessary to be damned
113
He that believeth on him is not condemned but he
that believeth not is condemned already, because
he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. John 318
114
The Conditions
The Rewards
The warnings
He that eats and digest his food will not go
hungry but he that doesnt eat will hunger.
He who has an A average on his tests and turns
in a 5-page term paper will receive an A for the
course but he that doesnt have an A average on
his tests will not receive an A.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved but he that believeth not shall be damned.
115
Again, some would rewrite the verse to read
He that believeth is saved and should be
baptized but he that believeth not shall be
damned.
But, this is NOT how the passage reads!
116
Numerous other objections are offered and are
just as easily answered
The simple truth of the matter is this
If one wants to do what God says, in the way He
says, for the reason He says
117
Baptism will not be an obstacle for him
He wont quibble and argue about it
He will be immersed in water for the remission of
his sins, because that is what God requires!
