Title: Acts 2:14
1Acts 21-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they
were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound
like the blowing of a violent wind came from
heaven and filled the whole house where they were
sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of
them. All of them were filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the
Spirit enabled them.
2Acts 238-39 "Repent, and let each of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.
What is the gift of the Holy Spirit?
The ability to speak in tongues, as in vv. 1-4?
A gift the Spirit gives?
The Spirit himself as a gift?
Something else?

The promise of Jesus resurrection is the core
promise of the O.T.
14How do we receive the promise of the Holy
Spirit?
Rom 63-10 Or do you not know that all of us who
have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been
baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been
buried with Him through baptism into death, in
order that as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father, so we too might
walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become
united with Him in the likeness of His death,
certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His
resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self
was crucified with Him, that our body of sin
might be done away with, that we should no longer
be slaves to sin 7 for he who has died is freed
from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we
believe that we shall also live with Him, 9
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the
dead, is never to die again death no longer is
master over Him. 10 For the death that He died,
He died to sin, once for all but the life that
He lives, He lives to God.
By being raised with Jesus in baptism.

23Rom. 818-25
I consider that our present sufferings are not
worth comparing with the glory that will be
revealed in us. 19 The creation waits in eager
expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.
20 For the creation was subjected to frustration,
not by its own choice, but by the will of the one
who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation
itself will be liberated from its bondage to
decay and brought into the glorious freedom of
the children of God. 22 We know that the whole
creation has been groaning as in the pains of
childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not
only so, but we ourselves, who have the
firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we
wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we
were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at
all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if
we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for
it patiently.
The first fruits our having been raised with
Jesus in baptism i.e., the redemption of our
soul.
But we still are groaningwaiting eagerly-- for
the redemption of our body.

firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we
wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we
were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at
all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if
we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for
it patiently.
Acts 266-8 And now I am standing trial for the
hope of the promise made by God to our fathers 7
the promise to which our twelve tribes hope to
attain, as they earnestly serve God night and
day. And for this hope, O King, I am being
accused by Jews. 8 "Why is it considered
incredible among you people if God does raise the
dead?
25Therefore
1. The promise of the Spirit the resurrection
of Jesus, and our resurrection and redemption
through Him
2 The gift/seal/pledge of the Spirit our
spiritual resurrection w/Jesus in baptism.
But thats only part of the promise made to our
fathersmore is yet to come. Our spiritual
resurrection in baptism is the seal, pledge, down
payment on the whole promise.
Rom. 818-25
Were still waiting for a physical resurrection
of our bodies that will complete the promise of
the Spirit.
Although our spirits have been raised with Christ
in baptism, our bodies still await their
redemption. When Jesus returns, our raised
spirits will join our raised bodies (1Cor. 15)
and the Spirits promise of redemption will be
complete. By sharing in Jesus death, burial,
and resurrection, we share in His promise of the
Holy Spirit.
