Officials Pay
  • 7.50 per game
  • .25 raise per sport
  • 2.00 raise for certified officials
  • 15 for special events
  • Payday-every other Wednesday

What We Expect from Officials
  • Responsibility
  • Time issues, game management, shift obligations
  • Respect

  • Be a presence, but dont be a nuisance
  • Courtesy
  • You are a reflection of the Recreation Department
    and USC itself.

Referee Assignments
  • 1st week of games signup at the ref meeting
  • All other weeks - Emailed on Mondays
  • Reply before 11 AM Thursday yes/no
  • If you can work, send an email to the PC
    confirming your shift
  • If you cannot work, let the PC know you cant
    work your shift
  • EITHER WAY, you MUST send the PC an email.
  • Revised schedule emailed by Thu 11am
  • If you say you can work, you have to work!
  • If you need to cancel last minute, you can find a
    replacement using the referee info sheet that
    will be emailed to you. You must let the PC know
    when and with whom you are switching!

Uniform
  • Look the part!
  • BLACK shorts/Pants
  • Whistle - provided
  • Shoes athletic shoes (no cleats)
  • Watch wear a watch that has a stopwatch.

Injuries
  • Report all injuries to IPCs immediately!
  • If you are not sure whether to report an injury
    report the injury!
  • When to stop the game
  • Call DPS 740-4321

Rules
  • NCAA Rules will govern
  • Two 20 min running halves
  • 1 time out per half of 1 min
  • 5 players to start game
  • Clock always runs except during timeouts.
  • At 200 left in the game-
  • Eight consecutive plays will be run, and the game
    will be over.
  • Extra points do not count as plays
  • If one team leads by 22 or more, the 8 plays
    rule is not used, the clock continues to run.

    opponent from legally attempting to secure the
    runners flag

Points of Emphasis-Flag Guarding
  • Examples
  • a) stiff arming tactics
  • b) Slapping a defenders arm hand away from ones
    flags
  • c) Excessive spinning
  • d) Diving if, in the judgment of the official,
    the diviing prevented the defender from securing
    the flags
  • e) Dipping ones head, shoulders or upper body in
    such a way (waist or below) as to prevent a
    defender from grabbing the flags
  • f) A ball carrier running in a straight line
    and not trying to avoid Contact with the
    defender(s) or running with his/her head down
