4The Boom Foot Project
- The objective is to create the business
environment in the school. - The project can go right through the whole
business of Bucyrus. - Tender documents, scope of work, detail design
and drafting, estimating quantities and pricing,
developing quality processes and documentation,
submission of tender documents, purchasing
materials, job costing, expediting materials,
marking it out, fabricating, checking welding
out, abrasive blasting and painting.
5How will it work?
- Using the project gives a real business example
of how learning is applied to the reality of
business. - The final outcome being profit (How many were
made.) Focusing on this outcome will show the
true risk and the amount of work that goes into
business. - It will also give the students a real reason to
be accurate and thorough in everything they do. - It will also highlight the fact that the
workplace is non smoking and alcohol/drug free
and submitting them to random drug tests may also
highlight the realities of working in the
engineering/mining industries.

14Material Costs ???
- Onesteels Regional Manager Mark Lean has
agreed to supply the material required for this
project. - This gives another avenue of awareness for the
students as a tour of this facility would round
off the students realisation of the size of the
facility needed to store steel of the sizes used
in the Manufacture of mining equipment. It would
also give them awareness of profile cutting and
steel preparation processes.
15Other Benefits
- Journalism students can report on progress of the
project and also create a documentary of the
project for viewing by parents on the celebration
night. - Graphic Art students can formulate brochures and
reports for submission. - Catering students can prepare the meal for the
celebration night and deliver the total product.
Menu preparation, costing, submission of price
for acceptance, ordering food and carrying out
the whole event. - Accounting students can set up the books for the
business and report financial progress weekly.
