Title: Madison Diocese Long Range Planning Efforts
1Madison Diocese Long Range Planning Efforts
- The Trusting in the Spirit phase of the
process - presented by
- Scott Kelbel of HMC
- and Terry McArdle of St. Anns
2Introduction to the Trusting in the Spirit
phase
- In 2006 the Madison Diocese began a process
toward long range planning for parishes and
parish activities - Bishop Morlino hired the Reid Group out of
Seattle, WA to assist the Diocesan Planning
Commission
3The initial Guided by the Spirit phase of the
process
- We will be talking about two major items in what
Bishop Morlino designated as the Guided by the
Spirit, phase of this process - First, background information on the Core
Groups and Cluster Groups efforts in 2006 and
2007 - Second, Bishops Morlinos recommendation for our
two parishes, and the next step -- - Trusting in the Spirit for the implementation
phase
4Topic One the Core Groups
- Initially the Diocese asked each pastor to
establish a core group of 4 to 5 individuals
from the parish to prepare a background survey - This Survey could be accomplished in a number of
ways and responses were to serve as the
foundation for the next step - The survey was divided into 4 main topic areas
- Spiritual Life
- Formation and Education
- Social Justice, Advocacy and Outreach
- Parish Life, Leadership and Planning
5Topic Two the Cluster Group
- Our cluster group combined the core groups
from HMC, St. Anns and Christ the King of
McFarland - The main job of the cluster group was to
develop a plan for some type of possible joint
efforts between these parishes - There were 5 models we could select from
- Merged Parish a new larger parish
- Linked Parishes do as many things as possible
together - Partnership Parishes create joint programs,
share staff and programs - Under a Parish Director bishop appoints a
director (deacon, or religious) of the parish - Leadership Team - of 1 or 2 priests and lay
leaders
6Next step the Proposed Cluster Plan
- Our cluster group found an obvious connection
between HMC and St. Anns due to existing ongoing
shared programs. - However, Christ the King had a desire to form a
combination with St. Patricks in Cottage Grove
and/or St. Dennis on Madisons southeast side - Thus our HMC-St. Anns Cluster Plan recommended
the formation of a partnership between our two
parishes - This partnership would encompass three major
areas - Coordinated Programs
- Shared Programs
- Shared Training
7What s the Result regarding our Cluster Plan
proposal ?
- The Diocesan Planning Commission recommended our
partnership to Bishop Morlino with minor changes - Bishop Morlino accepted the recommendation and
our partnership plan for joint efforts (well
show them) - Bishop Morlino has now designated the
implementation planning based on the cluster
recommendations as the Trusting in the Spirit
phase of the long range planning process

9Bishop Morlinos General Directives to be
considered in making our implementation plan
- Pray do all we can to increase vocations to
ordained, consecrated life, lay ministry - All parishes within the cluster support the
Catholic Schools within the cluster - Create a Cluster Implementation Team to engage
the Staffs and Pastoral Councils in developing an
implementation plan provide regular updates to
the parishes to the Diocese - Support the implementation of ParishSOFT in all
parishes of the Diocese - Support the implementation of QuickBooks in all
parishes of the Diocese
10Bishop Morlinos General Directives - Continued
- Support the implementation of Churchwerks School
Information System in all schools of the Diocese - All parishes, those with those without schools,
will actively participate in a diocesan wide
comprehensive school study to promote and
increase our diocesan commitment to Catholic
education as outlined in the USCCB publication
Renewing Our Commitment to Catholic Elementary
and Secondary Schools in the Third Millennium.
11The Status of our 2 parishes in this
implementation process
- We need to remember that we are in much better
shape than most other parishes in the Diocese - We are forming a partnership, primarily of
activities, programs shared training - We are not being required to merge
12What is the next step of this process?
- Last fall Bishop Molino asked the pastors to
establish a cluster implementation team from
each parish - Msgr Jerry Healy choose to retain the
core-cluster team from St. Ann for its team - Fr. Bill Connell chose 5 different people for the
HMC implementation team - The purpose of the cluster implementation teams
is to develop an implementation plan for
partnership of our 2 parishes
13How does this Implementation process immediately
impact on each Pastoral Council?
The immediate question our implementation team
has for each Pastoral Council is, What priority
do you wish to assign to the proposed
consolidation areas?
14Additional Question for each Pastoral Council
- Due to Bishop Morlinos 3rd General Directive the
Implementation Team is asking each Parish Council
to help educate the various parish councils and
commissions on the Trusting in the Spirit
implementation process and ask for their input
into this process
15Next Steps Preparation of an Implementation Plan
- With your input we will prepare our cluster group
implementation plan for our two parishes - Do you want anything specifically said or
included? - We will present it to you before submitting it by
May 15th. - Are there any other concerns?
