CRCT Requirements
  • The state of Georgia requires that all students
    in grades 1 5 take the CRCT in the following
    areas Reading, Language Arts and Math.
  • All students in grades 3 5 must also take the
    CRCT in Science and Social Studies.

Promotion Criteria for Students in Decatur
County(Grades 1 5)
  • Students in grades 1 and 2 must pass the Reading
    and Math CRCT have passing grades (yearly
    averages) in Reading and Math and be performing
    on grade level in the Reading and Math programs.
  • In grades 3 5, students must pass the Reading
    and Math CRCT Reading and Math (on grade-level
    material) and at least two out of the three
    academic subjects (English, Science and Social
    Studies) for each grade.

What happens if my child doesnt pass the CRCT?
  • 3rd Grade
  • State law says that if a student does NOT pass
    the Reading CRCT in 3rd grade, it is mandatory
    that he/she attend summer school and then retake
    the test.
  • 5th Grade
  • If a student does NOT pass the Reading and/or
    Math CRCT in 5th grade, he/she must attend summer
    school and retake the test in the area(s) that
    they did not pass.

What if my child fails the CRCT Retest in grades
3 and 5?
  • The student will be retained and the parents will
    be notified.
  • The parent has the right to appeal the decision
    to retain the student. A placement committee
    will meet to look at their overall academic
    achievement. The decision to retain, place or
    promote the child to the next grade must be an
    unanimous decision. The decision of the placement
    committee is final!

Test Taking Tips for Elementary Students
  • Relax. Just do the best you can.
  • Your first choice is usually correct. Dont
    change an answer unless you have a good reason to
    do so.
  • Read the question and all answer choices
    carefully before choosing an answer.
  • Rule out answers that dont make sense.
  • Be aware of key words such as all, now,
    always, never, only, and exactly.

  • Watch for negative words like not, no, and
    never.
  • Words that are CAPITALIZED, underlined, or bold
    are important words.
  • Look for information in some of the questions.
    This information may help you answer other
    questions.
  • Make sure you have an answer marked for EVERY
    question.

  • Make sure your child gets a good nights sleep
    before a test.
  • Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid
    conflicts.
  • Make sure your child has taken any needed
    medication.
  • Make sure your child has his/her glasses or
    hearing aids.
  • Make sure your child is present during testing.

    to do his/her best.
  • If the test is on a subject you can review, go
    over it with him/her.
  • Remind your child to listen carefully to
