1
Using Outlook Web Access
6th Grade Computer Class with Middle School
Technology Educator
Lesson Objectives
  • Students will know how to login to their school
    email account from on campus
  • Students will know how to create and send a
    message
  • Students will know how to create and send a
    message with an attachment

2
6th Grade Maryland Technology Literacy Standards
for Students Alignment
  • Standard 4.0 Technology for Communication and
    Expression Use technology to communicate
information and express ideas using various media
    formats
  • Topic A Communication
  • Indicator 1 Select and use technology for
    communication
  • Objective A Use communication tools (such as
    e-mail, discussion boards, online conferences,
    Learning Management Systems, portfolios) to
gather information, share ideas, and respond to
    questions
  • (From Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for
    Students)

3
Technology utilized in the lesson
  • 20 desktop computers for student use
  • 20 flat panel monitors for student use
  • 1 tablet laptop for teacher use
  • 1 mounted SmartBoard for teacher/student use
  • 1 mounted projector
  • Access to the school network
  • Internet access via IE7 via T1 line
  • The above technologies will greatly enhance
this lesson because the students will be
demonstrating the skills they are learning
hands-on. Allowing them to use their own school
email account gives them a better sense of real
    word application of the skill.

4
Final Product
  • At the end of the lesson students will be asked
to create and send a message with an attachment
to their teacher. The attachment should be a
brief reflection on the lesson written by the
    student
  • This will allow the teacher to assess their
    understanding of the lesson

5
Assessment and Extension of Learning
  • The lesson will be assessed using a 50 point
    rubric (shown below)
  • Recommendation for extension of learning is to
have teachers incorporate email use into their
daily assignments by having students email
    homework assignments and completing group
    collaborations and feedback via email.
