BEST WASTE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES HOW THEY
BENEFIT THE SITES

HAVE A PLAN
  • Before starting up a new system or converting
data from one system to another, have a plan of
    action.
  • How can you develop a plan of action?

3
THE LEARNING CURVE
  • There will always be a learning curve. The key
is to know when to make a change and when to work
    around an issue.
  • If you make a procedural change how will it
    impact your data?
  • Is it a significant impact? Can you live with
the past data being inaccurate or do you have to
    go back and change it.

Best Management Practices
  • Best is a relative term. Whats best for me is
    not always best for you.
  • If you use DRMO for waste disposal, get on board
with the automatic data transfer as soon as you
    are comfortable.
  • Minimize the number of waste profiles you need
    as much as you can.
  • Create as many collection sites as you need to
identify where the waste is generated.
  • When sending data to DRMO, be careful about
using document numbers that are close. If it can
be messed up, it will be.

  • Totaling up the parts washer waste at the end of
the year and creating 1 container number for it
all so that it prints on the Biennial has worked
    well as a work around.
  • Lab packs are tricky and we have not found an
easy way to put these is the system other than
    one at a time.
  • We have created a HDSC called DRMO. All DRMO
turn-ins are transferred to this HDSC and
received on to one of three shelf bins Sales,
Reutilization, or Waste. This removes it from
    the warehouse inventory.

6
Continued
  • Dont convert data if you can start fresh
faster and have good quality data.
  • You can convert data from almost any electronic
    format (i.e. Form Filler)
  • Take time to cover all the bases.
  • Do the data entry yourself or make sure that you
revue it, if done by data entry personnel
  • The system is designed to have waste streams to
accommodate state requirements. If this is not a
requirement of your state, keep these at a
    minimum.

7
Continued
  • If you decide to change employee Id numbers, this
does not transfer to the waste collection site
screens and will remove your data, thus no one
will have access to the collection sites. Its
best to decide what you want to use at the
    beginning and dont change it.
