MEETING HIS MEN IN THEIR MISSIONS
2Arrupe was said to be a Second Founder of the
Society of Jesus because of his resemblance to
St. Ignatius and the Vision and Direction he gave
the Society for nearly two decades !
Amazing resemblance between the two Generals !
3Fr. Arrupe receives blessing from Holy Father
Paul VI after he was elected General of the
Society of Jesus ! A good custom and practice
kept up by every General of the Society !
4St. Ignatius along with his companions presented
himself before Pope Paul III in 1540

7Once at the helm, Father Arrupe sets out to meet
his men in their missions around the world as
early as in 1965
8The Jesuit World at the time of Fr. Arrupe with
36,000 Jesuits working across the globe !
9It was for him a great joy, more than duty, to go
and meet his Jesuit brethren wherever they might
be !
10Fr. Generals first visit was to the Jesuit
Communities in Italy in August 1965
11His Second Trip was to the Middle East and Africa
in Dec 1965 and in Jan 1966
After St. Ignatius, Arrupe was the next General
to set foot in the Middle East.

15His Fourth Trip was to the USA in 1966 Arrupe
was the first General to cross the Atlantic to
visit his men

India, spent 25 days in 1967 visiting almost
every Province in India and Sri.Lanka ( from
Jan 7 to Feb 1 )

one with any group of people !
38Father Arrupe allows his shoes to be polished by
a young polisher at Quito, Ecuador while he was
on a visit to that country.

40During the 18 long years as General, Fr. Arrupe
made extensive journeys to every part of the
Jesuit world to meet and listen to his brethren
in varied missions.
