Construction on Old Main was started in 1914 and
was completed in 1915. Old Main was a two-story
red brick building that housed grades one through
twelve with 10 classrooms and an auditorium.All
of the classrooms were located on the outside
edge of the building so they would have plenty of
light coming into each room.

other. - The buildings are large and have many rooms
- Reading, writing, penmanship, and arithmetic are
taught. - Reading is taught every day in first grade.
- Lanterns light the building at night.
- There are water fountains in the hall.

- The children sit on benches.
- All of the grades are in the same room.
- The students try to learn as much as they can.
- The pupils write on paper.
- Each child has his or her own desk.

- Each pupil has several textbooks.
- The teacher makes a fire in the stove in winter.
- Teachers use a hickory stick to punish children
who are late for school.
