Title: Muslims In Britain

Muslims In Britain
  • A Childs Guide

2
Introduction
In this presentation, I am going to tell you
about the problems that Modern Day Muslims have
when they live in Britain. There are around 3.1
Million Muslims living in Britain, most of these
in the north. I am going to tell you 6 of the
most well-known issues that Muslims face.
Religion
3
Religion
  • Muslims believe that there is only 1 God and that
Muhammed is the prophet of this God (Allah).
Muslims are supposed to pry 5 times a day at
    specific times
  • First Light
  • After Noon
  • Between Afternoon and Sunset
  • After Sunset
  • When it is dark.
  • Muslims prayer place should be clean and tidy and
a place where it must be free from temptations
    and distractions.
  • Muslims may face difficulties in Britain because
it may not be accepted in the workplace to take a
break to pray. It may be hard to pray at night
because it is different than usual Western
Traditions. It may also be difficult because it
is hard to find a place where Muslims can wash,
washing is a very important aspect of Muslim
    Prayer.

Family
4
Family
  • Muslims believe that all Muslims are members of 1
big family called the Ummah. Muslims believe that
they can discuss problems with their families, as
they know them best. Muslims believe very much in
Elders being regarded very highly. Grandparents
are seen as being the leaders and advisors in the
    family.
  • Muslims face difficulties in Britain because
Muslims usually live as 1 big family. People in
Britain are not used to this and this may cause
some friction between people living there. There
may be problems getting and affording houses that
are big enough to fit all of the family in 1
house. People living in big families usually
argue a lot because they are with each other all
the time. This may cause heartache to the rest of
the family and close by friends.

Food
5
Food
  • Muslims food is an important part of their
culture. It states in the Quran that only
certain foods are allowed and that animals have
to be killed in a way that is the least painful.
This is a command from Allah and all Muslims
should obey it. Halal- Is food that is allowed to
    be eaten by Muslims
  • Haram- Is food that is not allowed to be eaten by
    Muslim
  • Muslim Meat must be killed in a way in which all
the blood must be drained before the animal is
eaten. The meat is then Halal and ready to eat.
The idea of blood being drained is that the
animal is pure. Allahs name is repeated so that
    Allah knows about it.
  • This may be a problem in Britain because there
may be a reduced amount of Halal Butchers on the
High Street. This would mean that there werent
enough places to get proper meat. It may also be
a problem for children because it would be hard
to not to eat the food that there friends are
eating. This may form friction in a School
    Environment.

Halal and Haram
Alcohol
7
Alcohol
  • Alcohol is forbidden in Muslim countries. But
Muslims living in Britain live in a culture of
drinking. It is hard for Muslims to be in a
environment in Britain without there being a pub
or club nearby. Muslims believe that it is not
right to drink Alcohol because it is bad to
damage anything that Allah has created.
  • Muslims face many problems in Britain because it
may be hard for young adults to become part of
crowds. They may spend their adult life on their
own or with the people who believe in what they
believe in. Some Muslims never will mix, but
stick with friends from their own faith.

Clothing
8
Clothing
  • Islam states that both men and women should dress
in a way of respect to Allah and to their own
    families.
  • For Men- Covered from Waist to Knees
  • For Women- Only their hands and faces should be
    seen
  • Once girls have turned 12 they are expected to
keep their legs, head and arms covered all the
time. Woman where a Hijab ( This is a veil that
    covers the hair).
  • Muslim Women today may find it very difficult to
fit in to the rest of the crowd because they
dont wear typical British clothes. Muslim men
may find it hard at work to wear these certain
clothes if employees dont understand the Muslim
    religion.

Marriage
9
Marriage
  • A Muslim marriage is not a religious service.
Before the 2 people marry they must work out some
basic ground rules for the time they are going to
spend with each other. These rules are then
written down and then the Man and the women both
sign the document. Men are allowed to marry up
to 4 women, but only if he can treat them all
fairly with the same amount of money during
marriage. But, before the Quran was made, men
were allowed to marry as many women as he wished.
In the modern day world, Muslim men usually only
marry 1 women. But he may marry another if she
becomes ill or cannot conceive children. You are
not allowed to marry more than 1 person in
countries like Britain or America, as this is
strictly against the law. Marriage is more like a
social contract with the 2 people that produce a
gift of a child. Sex is supposed to be a gift
from Allah so Muslims are allowed to have as many
babies as they want as long as they can look
after them financially. However, if a baby is
born into 2 religions then it must always take
the father religions NEVER their mothers.

The Idea of Arranged Marriages
10
Arranged Marriages
  • An arranged Marriage is one where relations of a
Man or Women help there children to help decide
who would be suitable for them to marry. Arranged
Marriages are not compulsory but is what is
expected in the Muslim Faith. The father of a
women usually finds a man which would be suitable
for his daughter. This man is usually a family
friend or someone who has been suggested by the
Women's friends. Many Muslims feel this is a good
idea because their family have had more
experience in life. Some Muslims however do
disagree and think that they should be able to go
out into the world and choose who they think is
suitable. Young Muslims are not allowed to go out
with each other alone before Marriage. You may
marry distant relatives to pull together a family
and to resolve a family problem. Divorce is a
thing that is frowned upon but is allowed if
there is no other way of resolving the problem.
Muslims living in Britain may find this difficult
because of the lack of choice. Marriages are very
important and should be fancy. The idea of
arranged Marriage isnt appreciated in Britain
and people may find it difficult to accept the
concept. It may cause troubles between young
girls of different faiths due to the fact that
girls from other religions have a choice of who
they should marry. It will also cause people in
marriage to disagree with British Authorities as
they are not allowed to marry more than once in
this country. There are also horrible Honor
killings that happens when male members of the
family dislike who the girl is going to marry.
These are illegal and there may be a conflict
with the law. Muslims may get into trouble with
British law because things they think are
acceptable in Muslim Countries but are not in
Britain. Polygamy is also an act that I very
unacceptable in Britain because it is against the
law and is very frowned upon in Modern Society.
