The premises

• Tuscany wants to face the social issues caused
  by the international economic and financial
  globalisation through partnership tools, quality
  planning, good administration and social
  responsibility.
• For the difficulties faced by Tuscan SMEs a new
  strategy to increase their competitiveness should
  include knowledge, technology and professionalism
  to improve life quality with a higher income and
  with a sustainable development.

The policy
Forwarding Lisbon objectives with development
policies based on social coesion and inclusion,
social and environmental soustenibility CSR is
a principle contained in Tuscany Region Statute
and in all the programmation acts

The commitment of Tuscany in promoting CSR is a
project named Fabrica Ethica co-ordinated by
Ministry of Economic Actvities and the General
Direction of Economic Development

Fabrica Ethica actions can be summarised in some
areas

• Administrative structure
• institution of a regional office that works on
  CSR and equal opportunities policies in the
  General Direction of Economic Development

• grants for SMEs that achieve SA8000 certification
• proposal of fiscal reduction of regional tax for
  SA8000 certificated SMEs
• Stakeholder engagement
• institution of The Regional Ethical Commission a
  regional multistakeholder forum
• participation to national and international
  roundtables as representative of Italian regions

Some significant results

• The big part of Italian SA8000 certificated
  enterprises are in Tuscany (48 on 112)
• Italy is the first country in the world (112 on
  430)

Projects in progress

• Fabrica Ethica laboratory certification of the
  leather industrial sector with the ISO and SA8000
  standards
• the project is the first result of the
  international meeting of last april, and in
  particular that of the first panel in which were
  discussed proposals about certifications
  semplification and integration

• The project has been presented by Centopercento
  italiano consortium, an association of leather
  industries that strongly believe in CSR policies
  and that since the beginning of Fabrica Ethica
  actions has worked for the implentation of SA8000
  and of CSR in general

• The project will involve 619 enterprises
  (located in 30 municipalities and 7 provinces)
  with information, comunication and training
  programs
• The principal objective is to spread the CSR
  culture in the SMEs involved and to help the most
  active or prepared to achieve integrated
  certification
• All local stakeholders will be involved in the
  implementation local authorities, business
  associations, trade unions, NGOs, cunsumers,
  representatives of religious communities

• Local Stakeholder round tables will be
  implemented to coordinate communication and
  informative actions
• All the regional and local mass media will be
  informed

• GUCCI, the luxury fashion house, began the
  process to achieve SA8000 and ISO 14001
  certifications.
• Gucci process is harmony Tuscany project as
  leading industry of leather sector
