Authentic, God-centered, Word-saturated, Spirit-em
powered worship is the greatest catalyst for
renewal offered to the Church.
5
True or false
God loves the worship of His people.
6
I hate, I despise your religious feasts I
cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you
bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I
will not accept them. Though you bring choice
fellow-ship offerings, I will have no regard for
them. Amos 521-22 NIV
7
True or false
God delights in His peoples songs of praise.
8
Away with the noise of your songs! I will not
listen to the music of your harps. Amos 523
NIV
9
Three categories of worship
10
False Worship
Worshiping the wrong God
Psalm 42 NIV How long, O men, will you turn
my glory into shame? How long will you love
delusions and seek false gods?
11
Vain Worship
Worshiping the right God in the wrong way
Matthew 159 NIV They worship me in vain
their teachings are but rules taught by men.
12
True Worship
Worshiping the right God in the right way
John 423 NIV Yet a time is coming and has
now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the
kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
13
AUTHENTIC WORSHIP A continual cycle of renewal
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet
inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 1
Corinthians 416 NIV

16
How would you define worship?
17

What corporate worship is matters to God It is
not evangelism, nor is it even mutually edifying
fellowship. It is a family meeting with God, it
is the covenant community engaging with God,
gathering with his people to seek the face of
God, to glorify and enjoy him, to hear his word,
to revel in the glory of union and communion with
him, to respond to his word, to render praise
back to him, to give unto him the glory due his
name. Ligon Duncan III
18
Worship is communion with God in which
believers, by grace, center their minds
attention and their hearts affection on the
Lord, humbly glorifying God in response to His
greatness and His word. Bruce Leafblad
19
  • Worship is initiated by God
  • Yet a time is coming and has now come when the
true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit
and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers
    the Father seeks.
  • John 423 NIV
  • No one can come to me unless the Father who
    sent me draws him
  • John 644a NIV

20
2. Worship is directed to God Through Jesus,
therefore, let us continually offer to God a
sacrifice of praise the fruit of lips that
confess his name. Hebrews 1315 NIV
21
  • 3. Worship is focused on God
  • One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I
seek that I may dwell in the house of the
Lord all the days of my life, to gaze
upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him
    in his temple.
  • My heart says of you, Seek his face! Your
    face, Lord, I will seek.
  • Psalm 274,8 NIV

22
4. Worship is offered for God The end of public
worship is the glory of God. His people should
engage in all its several parts with an eye
single to His glory. Public worship has as its
aim the building of Christs Church by the
perfecting of the saints and the addition to its
membership of such as are being saved all to
the glory of God. Through public worship on the
Lords day Christians should learn to serve God
all the days of the week in their every activity,
remembering, whether they eat or drink, or
whatever they do, to do all to the glory of God
(1 Corinthians 1031). BCO 47-3
23
5. Worship is empowered by God For it is we who
are the circumcision, we who worship by the
Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who
put no confidence in the flesh
Philippians 33 NIV
24
6. Worship is regulated by God
Since you died with Christ to the basic
principles of this world, why, as though you
still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules
Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!?
These are all destined to perish with use,
because they are based on human commands and
teachings. Such regulations indeed have an
appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed
worship, their false humility and their harsh
treatment of the body, but they lack any value in
restraining sensual indulgence. Col. 220 NIV
25
The light of nature showeth that there is a God,
who hath lordship and sovereignty over all, is
good, and doth good unto all, and is therefore to
be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted
in, and served, with all the heart, and with all
the soul, and with all the might. But the
acceptable way of worshiping the true God is
instituted by himself, and so limited by his own
revealed will, that he may not be worshiped
according to the imaginations and devices of men,
or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible
representation, or any other way not prescribed
in the Holy Scripture. Westminster Confession
of Faith, Chapter 21
26
7. Worship is communion with God A service
of public worship is not merely a gathering of
Gods children with each other, but before all
else, a meeting of the triune God with His chosen
people. God is present in public worship not only
by virtue of the Divine omnipresence but, much
more intimately, as the faithful covenant Savior.
The Lord Jesus Christ said Where two or three
are gathered together in My name there I am in
the midst of them (Matthew 1820). BCO 47-2
27
The LORD would commune with Moses face to face,
as a man speaks with his friend. Exodus
3311a NIV
To Be Renewed
28
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I
seek, inquire for, and insistently require that
I may dwell in the house of the Lord, in His
presence, all the days of my life, to behold and
gaze upon the beauty, the sweet attractiveness
and the delightful loveliness, of the Lord and to
meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.
Psalm 274 AB
29
GLORIOUS GOD, It is the flame of my life to
worship you,the crown and glory of my soul to
adore you,heavenly pleasure to approach
you.Give me power by your Spirit to help me
worship now,that I may forget the world,be
brought into fullness of life,be refreshed,
comforted, blessed.
