of Elections
- The Commissioners make decisions about schools in
our county - They take care of peoples health through the
Buncombe County Health Department - They make sure recycling happens.
- They make sure the trash trash gets taken to the
dump - They provide money to build parks.
- They give money to the Sheriffs Department.

- Education is really important. Schools need more
technology. - Playgrounds are important.
- He thinks we need more teachers and a pay raise

important issues for him. Mr. Young is very
proud of the Buncombe County Soccer Complex.

- How much money did you have to spend in your
campaign running for county commissioner?
13In what ways has this project been of value to
you?
- I now know some of the things that the County
Commission does. I never had thought about how
we get things like our garbage picked up. We
know that they spend a lot of money on schools
and supplies. They vote to give money to build
parks and places for us to have fun.

- They have to stand up for people who they want to
help and represent.
15How do public officials demonstrate civic
responsibility?
- Mr. Young is a responsible member of the Buncombe
County Commission when he visits schools and
talks to people in his county.

responsibilities in holding this office?
- I need to clean up after myself.
- I need to be respectful.
- I should use words not fists.
- I should do my work at school and at home too.
- I should be kind to other people and treat them
like I want to be treated. - I should be kind to animals.
