MISSION
  • "To promote the three-fold mission of the
    University through technology which includes
    radio and television programming, national
    programming, distance learning and
    videoconferencing."

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
  • (a) The first distance learning program produced
    by the AAMU Telecommunications Center, was
    started in 1975.
  • (b) The Telecommunications Center acquired
    satellite dishes to provide distance learning
    capabilities for the entire campus in 1980.
  • (c) The Telecommunications Center has provided
    training and professional development through
    teleconferencing since 1985.

Campus Cable System
  • 61-channel capability
  • 450 MHz-band width.
  • Each channel occupies 6 MHz
  • The system has three channels, 2, 21, and 22
    designated for use by AAMU. Channel 2 is
    programmed to provide AAMU campus general
    announcements and entertainment. Channels 21,
    and 22 provide video and audio distribution of
    special events to classrooms and offices on the
    AAMU campus.

OVERVIEW OF DISTRIBUTION SYSYTEM
  •   Interfacing video, audio, and data signals for
    distribution on and off campus.
  •  Adjoining the campus cable, satellite dishes,
    video teleconferencing, video, and audio
    distribution systems into one area.
  • Monitoring and adjusting on-campus and remote
    classroom signals to insure quality assurance.
  • Supporting distribution signals for the
    Telecommunications Centers studio, student
    control room, main control room, S-VHF editing
    suite, U-MATIC and VHS editing equipment
