3July 6, 2005 News Release
- TYNER ANNOUNCES DRILLING OF STEPHENS 1 WELL
- Tyner Resources Ltd., through its wholly owned
- subsidiary Tyner Texas Operating Company, as
operator, has initiated drilling activity on
Tyner's first Lower Bend shale well in the Palo
Duro basin area of the Texas Panhandle. The new
well, the Stephens No. 1 well, is located
approximately one mile from Vintage Petroleum,
Inc. (NYSE VPI) Echols No. 1 well in Motley
county. The well has been permitted to a total
depth of 10,000 feet. Tyner has a 93.75-per-cent
working interest in the well, subject to a
76-per-cent net revenue interest. -
4July 6, 2005 News Release contd
- Grey Wolf Drilling Company mobilized the rig to
the site on June 28, and all work in respect of
road, pit and pad construction it now completed.
The well is expected to take approximately 35
days to drill, and an additional 20 to 45 days to
attempt completions and production tests as
required. The well drilling program is designed
to evaluate the Lower Bend shale and the granite
wash (Atoka sands).
5July 6, 2005 News Release contd
- J. Robby Robson, president and chief executive
officer of Tyner Texas, commented on the well
initiation "Tyner will aggressively pursue a
drilling plan in the Palo Duro basin area,
designed to confirm the presence of significant
natural gas reserves, as evidenced by the tests
conducted on the Cogdell No. 1 well. These tests
resulted in approximately three million cubic
feet per day day with associated condensate. We
are very pleased to parallel Vintage Petroleum
Inc., who have drilled two additional wells to
date in the basin, subsequent to their purchase
of the Cogdell No. 1 well and associated leases
from Legacy Petroleum.
6July 6, 2005 News Release contd
- Tyner has acquired leases on 6,400 acres in the
basin and has an option to acquire an additional
6,400 acres, which based on 80-acre spacing would
allow for a maximum of a 160-well program. The
Stephens No. 1 well is projected to encounter the
Lower Bend shale at approximately 8,400 feet
depth and to test the Granite wash at 9,200 feet.
The drilling of the Stephens No. 1 well should
provide critical data to enhance the
understanding of the Lower Bend shale structure
and to develop an understanding of the reserve
potential of the basin."
7SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 - TYNER SETS PRODUCTION CASING
STEPHENS 1 WELL DRILLED TO 9,500 FEET
- Tyner Resources Ltd.'s Stephens No. 1 well,
located in Motley county, Texas, and operated by
the company's wholly owned subsidiary, Tyner
Texas Operating Company, has achieved a total
vertical depth of 9,500 feet. This well is
approximately one mile east of the Echols 2 No. 1
well, which was recently completed by Vintage
Petroleum. Tyner has a 93.75-per-cent working
interest in the Stephens No. 1 well. - The well penetrated the entire Lower Bend shale
and the granite wash (Atoka) sands with total
depth (TD) being 70 feet below the granite wash
in the Mississippi lime. Based on a review of the
well logs, Tyner Texas has set 5.5-inch
production casing through the granite wash. J.
Robby Robson, president and chief executive
officer of Tyner Texas, reports that log analysis
confirms penetration of approximately 1,000 feet
of Lower Bend shale-containing gas and 24 net
feet of potentially hydrocarbon-bearing granite
wash sands.
8SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 contd
- Schlumberger Ltd., a leading oil field services
company, is providing assistance to Tyner Texas
in the interpretation of the well logs. It is the
intention of Tyner, upon procurement of a
completion rig, to initially perforate and
complete the granite wash and subsequently to
frac both the granite wash and targeted portions
of the lower bend shale. Sidewall cores and drill
cutting samples have been sent for independent
analysis, the results of which are expected in
three to four weeks. The completion program will
begin shortly thereafter. - Tyner has advised Bankers Petroleum (U.S.) that
it is exercising its option to acquire an
additional 6,400 acres in the project area, for a
total of 12,800 acres. As consideration, and upon
TSX Venture Exchange acceptance, Tyner will issue
to Bankers 250,000 shares in its capital stock,
in addition to repayment of the cash costs
incurred by Bankers for the additional acreage.
9What Is Shale Gas?
- Essentially natural gas contained within a
sequence of predominantly fine grained rocks
dominated by shale. - Unlike conventional hydrocarbon targets, gas
shale acts both as a source for the generation of
natural gas, as well as the reservoir rock for
the storage of the gas. - The gas is stored within the shale sequence in
two primary methods - The gas is stored within the shale sequence An
absorbed gas phase onto kerogen (insoluble
organic material). - Free gas in the matrix porosity and fractures of
the shale rock mass.
10 Shale Gas Characteristics
- Gas shales are considered continuous type natural
gas plays, large geographic areas and the
reservoirs generally have long production life - Most gas shales have very low permeability, low
production rates and recovery factors are a
fraction of conventional reservoirs. - Shale gas wells flow at low rates but tend to
produce at a stabilized rate for long periods of
time
