Definition
- opportunities for disabled children and young
people to spend time away from their primary
carers. These include day, evening, overnight or
weekend activities and take place in the childs
own home, the home of an approved carer, or a

Criteria
- use fair, understandable and transparent
eligibility criteria that enable short breaks to
be used as a preventative service and which do
not restrict provision to those threatened by

19Short Breaks CommissioningIntentions 2009-2011
- Equality of access to high quality services,
centred on children families - Developmental approach - building on good
practice in Surrey and elsewhere - Address service pressures and waiting lists

young people - Commissioning intentions will be reviewed during

below points must be met for a bid to be

- Decisions on funding recommendations will be made
