What is Presidents Day?

• It is celebrated every third Monday of February.
• Honors all past Presidents of the United States.
• Enacted into law in 1971 by President Richard
  Nixon.

What is Memorial Day?

• Observed for the most part on the last Monday in
  May.
• Celebrated as a time to remember those who have
  lost their lives serving their country in wars.
• Originally known as Decoration Day, it was
  established in 1868 to commemorate the dead from
  the Civil War. Over the years it grew to
  commemorate soldiers in all wars.

What is Independence Day?

• Celebrated every 4th of July.
• Marks the day American colonists declared their
  independence from England.
• Celebrated since the Declaration of Independence
  date of July 4th 1776.

What is Columbus Day?

• Observed on the second Monday of October every
  year.
• Celebrates the discovering of America by
  Christopher Columbus
• In 1937 President Roosevelt proclaimed every
  October 12th as Columbus Day. Since 1971 it has
  been celebrated on the second Monday in October.
