Title: The

1
  • The
  • Ten Commandments

2
The Great Deception
  • Although we may not admit it outright, deep down
our idea about the law of God is that before Mt.
Sinai, men lived by faith without any law and
after the Messiah died, we are now set free back
    to that way of living.
  • A no law, law, then no law kind of thinking.
  • Lets see if that notion really holds water in
    scripture.

3
  • Were there Commandments before the Commandments?

4
  • Gen 216 And the LORD God commanded the man,
saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest
freely eat 17 But of the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it for
in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt
    surely die.

5
  • Gen 264 I will make your descendants as
numerous as the stars in the sky and will give
them all these lands, and through your offspring
all nations on earth will be blessed, 5 because
Abraham obeyed me and kept my requirements, my
commands, my decrees and my laws.
  • Ex 827 We must take a three-day journey into
the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our
    God, as he commands us."

6
YHVH Gives The Passover
  • Ex. 127 And they shall take of the blood, and
strike it on the two side posts and on the upper
door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat
it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that
night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread and
with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not
of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but
roast with fire his head with his legs, and with
the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let
nothing of it remain until the morning and that
which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall
burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it
with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet,
and your staff in your hand and ye shall eat it
in haste it is the YHVHs passover.
  • 14 And this day shall be unto you for a
memorial and ye shall keep it a feast to the
LORD throughout your generations ye shall keep
it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

7
  • Jesus became the fulfillment of this Celebration
    by becoming the Passover Lamb.
  • This is the Day that He died on the cross.

8
He Gives Unleavened Bread
  • 15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread
even the first day ye shall put away leaven out
of your houses for whosoever eateth leavened
bread from the first day until the seventh day,
that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
  • 16 And in the first day there shall be an holy
convocation, and in the seventh day there shall
be an holy convocation to you no manner of work
shall be done in them, save that which every man
must eat, that only may be done of you.
  • 17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened
bread for in this selfsame day have I brought
your armies out of the land of Egypt therefore
shall ye observe this day in your generations by
    an ordinance for ever.

9
  • The Feast of Unleavened Bread starts with
Passover Day and then goes for 7 days.
  • All sin (leaven) is to be removed from the house.
  • Yeshua removed and destroyed the power of sin
that had a hold on mankind! AMEN!

10
The Connection and Command
  • Ex. 1226 And it shall come to pass, when your
children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this
service? 27 That ye shall say, It is the
sacrifice of the LORDS passover, who passed over
the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt,
when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our
houses. And the people bowed the head and
    worshipped.
  • Lu 2219 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and
brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my
body which is given for you This do in
    remembrance of Me.

11
Pass the Test
  • Ex. 164 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I
will rain bread from heaven for you. And the
people shall go out and gather a certain quota
every day, that I may test them, whether they
will walk in My law or not.

12
He Gives the Sabbath
  • Gen 22 And on the seventh day God ended His
work which He had done, and He rested on the
seventh day from all His work which He had done.
  • 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and
sanctified it, because in it He rested from all
His work which God had created and made.

13
He Gives the Sabbath
  • Ex 1623 Then he said to them, "This is what the
LORD has said Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a
holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake
today, and boil what you will boil and lay up
for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until
    morning."
  • 24 So they laid it up till morning, as Moses
commanded and it did not stink, nor were there
    any worms in it.
  • 25 Then Moses said, "Eat that today, for today
is a Sabbath to the LORD today you will not find
    it in the field.
  • 26 "Six days you shall gather it, but on the
seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there will be
    none."
  • 27 Now it happened that some of the people went
out on the seventh day to gather, but they found
    none.
  • 28 And the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you
refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?

14
Teaching Gods Laws before they were given?
  • Ex 1812 Then Jethro, Moses father-in-law,
brought a burnt offering and other sacrifices to
God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel
to eat bread with Moses father-in-law in the
    presence of God.
  • 13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve
as judge for the people, and they stood round him
    from morning till evening.
  • 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was
doing for the people, he said, "What is this you
are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as
judge, while all these people stand round you
    from morning till evening?"
  • 15 Moses answered him, "Because the people come
to me to seek Gods will.
  • 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought
to me, and I decide between the parties and
inform them of Gods decrees and laws."

15
Up Until This Point
  • YHVH gave very specific instructions on diet,
sacrifices, holy days, the Sabbath and many other
instructions LONG BEFORE Moses received them
    again on Mt. Sinai.

16
The Breakdown
  • Moses goes up the Mountain (Ex. 193)
  • He tells them that all of them are to be a
kingdom of priests and a holy nation. (196)
  • Moses goes back down the Mtn. to tell the people
and the people respond that they will obey all He
    commands. (197)
  • Moses goes back up the Mtn. to tell God what the
    people said. (198)
  • YHVH tells him to go down the mtn. to tell the
people that on the third day He is going to speak
to them and to get ready. (1910)

17

Couldnt You have invented cell
phonesFIRST?
18
  • YHVH calls Moses back up to the Mtn. on the third
    day (1920).
  • Then He tells him in the very next verse to go
back down the mountain to tell the people to stay
    back (1921).
  • While Moses is down there, YHVH starts to speak
the commands of the Covenant. (Ex. 20)

19
Right After He Speaks the Ten
  • Turn to Ex. 2018
  • 18 Now all the people witnessed the
thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of
the trumpet, and the mountain smoking and when
the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar
    off.
  • 19 Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us,
and we will hear but let not God speak with us,
    lest we die."
  • 20 And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear
for God has come to test you, and that His fear
may be before you, so that you may not sin."
  • 21 So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew
near the thick darkness where God was. (Moses
    went back up the Mtn.)
  • 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Thus you
shall say to the children of Israel You have
seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

20
  • Then goes on for THREE more chapters giving the
rest of the first part of the covenant!
  • Then Moses goes back down the Mtn. again and
tells the people everything that YHVH told him.

21
QUESTION?...
  • If the people would not have stopped YHVH from
talking, what do you think God would have
    continued to do?
  • Speak the rest of the Covenant!

22
Exodus 243-8
  • 3 So Moses came and told the people all the
words of the LORD and all the judgments. And all
the people answered with one voice and said, "All
the words which the LORD has said we will do."
  • 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And
he rose early in the morning, and built an altar
at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars
according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
  • 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read
in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All
that the LORD has said we will do, and be
    obedient."
  • 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the
people, and said, "This is the blood of the
covenant which the LORD has made with you
    according to all these words."

23
Sound Familiar?
  • Mt 2628 "For this is My blood of the new
covenant, which is shed for many for the
    remission of sins.

24
  • Then, Moses went BACK up the Mtn. for the FIFTH
    time! (Ex. 2412)
  • 2412 And the YHVH said to Moses, Come up to
me to the mountain, and present yourself there
and I will give you tablets of stone, and the
laws and commandments which I have written that
    you may teach them.
  • While he is up there, the Lord gives him
instructions to make the ark of the Covenant, the
Tabernacle, the priestly garments, etc because
He wants to be in the midst of His people.

25
FINALLY!
  • Ex. 3118 And when He had made an end of
speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses
two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone,
written with the finger of God.

26
Have you ever wondered how Moses could be strong
enough to carry 2 tablets of stone?
27
Israelites are really American Christians!
  • We have no patience!
  • 1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed
coming down from the mountain, the people
gathered together to Aaron, and said to him,
"Come, make us gods that shall go before us for
as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out
of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has
    become of him.
  • Read rest of chapter 32

28
One More Trip!Way to go Moses
  • Ex. 341 And the LORD said to Moses, "Cut two
tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will
write on these tablets the words that were on the
    first tablets which you broke.
  • 2 "So be ready in the morning, and come up in
the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself
to Me there on the top of the mountain.
  • TRIP 6!
  • Read rest of chapter 341-28

29
The Ten Commandments?
  • Since when are the Feast
  • Days part of the
  • Ten Commandments?

30
Lets go back to Ex. 21
  • 2112 He that smiteth a man, so that he die,
shall be surely put to death.
  • 2116 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth
him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall
    surely be put to death.
  • 2117 And he that curseth his father, or his
mother, shall surely be put to death.
  • 2220 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save
unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly
    destroyed.
  • 229 Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of
thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors the
firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
  • 231 "You shall not circulate a false report.
Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an
    unrighteous witness.

31
  • 2312 "Six days you shall do your work, and on
the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and
your donkey may rest, and the son of your female
servant and the stranger may be refreshed.
  • 2313 "And in all that I have said to you, be
circumspect and make no mention of the name of
other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth.
  • 14 "Three times you shall keep a feast to Me in
    the year
  • 15 "You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread
(you shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I
commanded you, at the time appointed in the month
of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt none
    shall appear before Me empty)

32
  • 16 "and the Feast of Harvest, the first fruits
of your labors which you have sown in the field
and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the
year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your
    labors from the field.
  • 17 "Three times in the year all your males shall
    appear before the Lord GOD.
  • 18 "You shall not offer the blood of My
sacrifice with leavened bread nor shall the fat
of My sacrifice (Passover Sacrifice) remain until
    morning.
  • 19 "The first of the first fruits of your land
you shall bring into the house of the LORD your
God. You shall not boil a young goat in its
    mothers milk.

33
Its only the beginning
  • Ex. 3427 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write
these words, for according to the tenor
(Hebrew-Pey) of these words I have made a
covenant with you and with Israel."
  • 28 So he was there with the LORD forty days
and forty nights he neither ate bread nor drank
water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of
    the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

34
His Heart on the Matter
  • 1 "Now this is the commandment, and these are
the statutes and judgments which the LORD your
God has commanded to teach you, that you may
observe them in the land which you are crossing
    over to possess,
  • 2 "that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep
all His statutes and His commandments which I
command you, you and your son and your grandson,
all the days of your life, and that your days may
    be prolonged.
  • 3 "Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to
observe it, that it may be well with you, and
that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of
your fathers has promised youa land flowing
    with milk and honey.
  • 4 "Hear, O Israel The LORD our God, the LORD
    is one!
  • 5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all
your heart, with all your soul, and with all your
    strength.
  • 6 "And these words which I command you today
    shall be in your heart.
  • 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your
children, and shall talk of them when you sit in
your house, when you walk by the way, when you
lie down, and when you rise up.

35
But the Law was Given to the Jews only, right?
  • Rom 1117 And if some of the branches were
broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree,
were grafted in among them, and with them became
a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive
tree, 18 do not boast against the branches. But
if you do boast, remember that you do not support
the root, but the root supports you.

37
One Law for ALL the BranchesEx. 1248-49
  • 48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee,
and will keep the Passover to the LORD, let all
his males be circumcised, and then let him come
near and keep it and he shall be as one that is
born in the land for no uncircumcised person
    shall eat thereof.
  • 49 One law shall be to him that is home born,
and unto the stranger that sojourns among you.

38
Its ALL Connected
  • Mt. 2237 Jesus said to him, "You shall love
the LORD your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, and with all your mind.38 "This is
the first and great commandment.39 "And the
second is like it You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.40 "On these two commandments hang
all the Law and the Prophets.

39
  • 1Co 719 Circumcision is nothing and
uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the
commandments of God is what matters.
  • 1Jo 23 Now by this we know that we know Him, if
    we keep His commandments.

40
  • 2Jo 16 This is love, that we walk according to
His commandments. This is the commandment, that
as you have heard from the beginning, you should
    walk in it.
  • 1Jo 52 By this we know that we love the
children of God, when we love God and keep His
    commandments.
  • 1Jo 53 For this is the love of God, that we
keep His commandments. And His commandments are
    not burdensome.
  • Re 1412 Here is the patience of the saints
here are those who keep the commandments of God
    and the faith of Jesus.

41
Relationship STARTS With a Covenant
  • Deut 613 "You shall fear the LORD your God and
serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.
