Title: An Inauguration Party for President Dobbins

1
An Inauguration Party for President Dobbins
  • Classical Music
  • Banners with campaign slogan We Will Overcome
  • Entreé of Choice Shrimp
  • U.S. Flag Chocolate Cake with Congratulations
    Mr. President on the front.
  • Victory Parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

2
Wait a Second!Somethings Wrong
  • Jack likes Country Music, not Classical.
  • His real campaign slogan Why Not Me?
  • Jack is allergic to shrimp.
  • Jack was actually elected president of his class,
    not of the U.S.
  • Cake should be shaped like school mascot.
  • Victory Parade should be on school grounds.

3
What Went Wrong?
  • Those things would have been fine for a U.S.
Presidential celebration, but not for Jacks
    class party.
  • Someone should have checked with Jack first, to
    make sure plans were appropriate.

4
What if we had a Party for Melanie, but our plans
included
  • Chocolate Cake
  • Sweet Tea Root Beer
  • Card Games
  • Volleyball game outside in the yard
  • She doesnt care for chocolate or cake!
  • She actually likes Mountain Dew.
  • She does not enjoy card games.
  • A pregnant woman in August?

5
To plan an event designed to please Melanie, we
need to
  • Realize that the event is first and foremost for
    Melanie, not for us.
  • Let Melanie tell us what pleases her and makes
    her happy.

6
To Worship and Honor Our Lord, we need to
  • Realize that the event is in honor of the Lord,
    not us.
  • Let the Lord tell us what pleases Him.
  • Its good for us to benefit from it, but the
    focus is on the Lord.

7
How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • They were continually devoting themselves to the
apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer. (Acts 242)

9
How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • When they had prayed, the place where they had
gathered together was shaken, and they were all
filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak
the word of God with boldness. (Acts 431)

How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • On the first day of the week, when we were
gathered together to break bread, Paul began
talking to them, intending to leave the next day,
and he prolonged his message until midnight.

How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • I received from the Lord that which I also
delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the
night in which He was betrayed took bread and
when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
"This is My body, which is for you do this in
    remembrance of Me."
  • In the same way He took the cup also after
supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in
My blood do this, as often as you drink it, in
    remembrance of Me."
  • For as often as you eat this bread and drink the
cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He
    comes.
  • (1 Corinthians 1123-26)

How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • Now concerning the collection for the saints, as
I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you
    also.
  • On the first day of every week each one of you is
to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that
no collections be made when I come. (1
    Corinthians 161-2)

How the Original Christians were Taught to
Worship God
  • Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also
reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will
    also reap bountifully.
  • Each one must do just as he has purposed in his
heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for
God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 96-7)

It is not enough to simply Worship Him in our
own way.

  • Those who worship the Lord must worship Him in
    Spirit and in Truth.
