Career Development
  • Encourage students to complete DISCOVER, a self
    assessment career inventory
  • Advise students to register for IPW during
    first-year
  • Advise students to participate in CEI and
    extended internships throughout college career
  • Faculty will hold periodic departmental
    information sessions to better inform students of
    graduate school opportunities and career options
    within their particular major

Multicultural Affairs
  • Enhance appreciation of diversity across campus
  • Have faculty/staff workshops to heighten
    awareness of diversity
  • Develop mentor network for minority students

Orientation
  • Work with Student Life in developing summer
    orientation
  • Work with College 101 committee to develop
    transition activities
  • Continue transition counseling through pre-major
    advising

Personal Counseling
  • Work with Wellness Center personnel to better
    support students
  • Improve referral system and notification policies
  • Pre-Major Advisors will be in contact with
    Student Life personnel in situations of concern
  • Set up a committee of advisors, counselors, and
    College 101 representatives to better monitor
    students with problems

Pre-Major Advising
  • Pre-register First-Year students
  • Serve as advisors to First-year students
  • Develop academic plan for matriculation
  • Serve as liaison between students and faculty
    during first year
  • Conduct workshops on developmental advising for
    faculty and staff

Supplemental Instruction
  • Supplemental Instruction will increase to cover
    75 of classes in general education curriculum by
    2003
  • Training sessions will be held each semester for
    Supplemental Leaders
  • Evaluations will be used to improve sessions and
    tailor training sessions
  • Visual-based Supplemental Instruction was
    introduced this fall in a MAT 092 class and we
    will add another section this spring semester
  • Previewing a HIS 111 course for possible use in
    fall of 2001.
  • Students are consistently showing increase in
    number of A,B,C grades in SI courses

Tutoring Services
  • Tutoring is available to students on a request
    basis
  • Professional and peer tutors maintain over 60
    hours of tutoring assistance each week
  • Tutoring will be expanded to include more lower
    level courses, so that 80 are covered by 2003
  • New software will be purchased to assist students
    with math and writing skills

WesBridge
  • Design and implement a series of workshops
    targeting study skills
  • Evaluate workshops to see if appropriate for
    WesBridge
  • Design a pilot program to be implemented Fall 01
  • Work with Activity I faculty involved in
    curriculum development

Writing Lab
  • A Writing Lab Coordinator will be hired
  • A new Writing Lab will be constructed by Feb 1
  • A program of assistance will be developed and
    promoted on campus for implementation Fall 2001
  • Writing Lab Coordinator will supervise all
    writing assistance provided in the Student
    Support Center
