10Ammunition Status Matt Solverson General
Dynamics-OTS
11Ammunition ATD Accomplishments
- All ATD exit criteria achieved
- Development by Kaman-Dayron of a survivable Safe
Arm. - Development by GD-OTS of a fuze electronics
package capable of - Launch _at_ 100,000 Gs.
- Power and set in feed system.
- Two-way communication _at_ full automatic firing
(250 shots/minute). - Capacitor power gt 2000m (10 sec. Flight ).
- Precision airburst lt 2m SD
- High operational reliability.
- Development of a passive Muzzle Velocity
Correction (MVC) device when coupled with
electronics - yields precision airburst. - Development under MANTECH of a two (2) step
Blank, Cup and Draw (BCD) process for fragmenting
warheads. - Development by GD-OTS of a functional link.
12Ammunition Status
- ACSW Ammunition Family
- Target Practice (TP) Cartridge
- High Explosive Airburst (HEAB) Cartridge
- Target Practice Spotter (TP-S) Cartridge
- Armor Piercing (AP) Cartridge
13Ammunition Status TP Cartridge
- Status
- Fully developed to ATD requirements
- Over 20K rounds built and fired to date
- Demonstrated Mann barrel dispersion of .25 mils
- Plan
- Optimization of projectile planned for SDD
- Updated design will be a ballistic match to the
XM1049 AP Cartridge - Facilities will be established for high rate
production during SDD - SDD production currently planned at 210,000
14Ammunition Status XM1019 HEAB Cartridge
- Status
- Design is remote settable high explosive air
bursting ammunition - Fuze Status
- Baseline design established has met ATD exit
criteria - Limited safety tests completed with satisfactory
results. Safe to load and assemble. - Independent power supply point
detonating/render safe
15Ammunition Status XM1019 HEAB Cartridge
- Fuze Status (continued)
- Functions demonstrated successfully
- Power up and set time-to-burst demonstrated from
the weapon (single shot and automatic) and test
barrel - Adjust time-to-burst based upon actual muzzle
velocity demonstrated from the weapon and test
barrel - Ability to derive electrical energy from the
launch environment (IPS) demonstrated from the
test barrel - Ability to retain launch derived firing energy
over the maximum effective range (2000m)
demonstrated from the test barrel. This is the
render safe (RS) function needed to minimize the
incidence of unexploded ordnance on the battle
field. - Point detonation capability against soft target
- Cumulative successes indicate we now meet the SDD
exit criteria for airburst reliability with
respect to initiating the front warhead. - Limited demonstration of dual warhead airburst
function
16Ammunition Status XM1019 HEAB Cartridge
17Ammunition Status XM1019 HEAB Cartridge
- Plan
- Interactive projectile/fuze development to be
executed at the start of SDD. - Bench and flight testing will be conducted to
evaluate design changes. - Integrate new features into current baseline
design - 50-meter no-arm distance
- Independent Power Supply PD/RS subsystem with
powered electronics - Demonstrate
- Improved airburst reliability
- Airburst accuracy requirement
- Explosive train reliability
- Dependable propagation to aft warhead
- RS over maximum time of flight trajectory
18Ammunition Status XM1019 HEAB Cartridge
- Address producibility and cost goals throughout
SDD - Regular updates to the Army Fuze Safety Review
Board (AFSRB) are planned - Development test success will lead to a cartridge
design verification test series (2500
cartridges). - Environmental
- Safety
- Reliability
- Cartridge delivery for Government type
classification
19Ammunition Status XM1051 TP-S Cartridge
- Status
- Fully developed for demonstrations.
- No design changes planned
- The XM1051 will be the test bed for fuze
development related to the XM1019 HEAB - Reduces fuze and systems integration test costs
- Plan

- GD-OTS will continue to support GDATP with XM1051
cartridges for XM307 weapon demonstration
purposes
20Ammunition Status XM1049 AP Cartridge
- Status
- Current effort underway to develop a projectile
design to maximize armor penetration - Program is in support of the XM109 25mm
Anti-Materiel Payload Rifle - Current program ends in Sept. 04 Resulting
design will be SDD start point
21Ammunition Status XM1049 AP Cartridge
