• Aim to improve literacy and social skills
• Studying the ASDAN stepping stones
• programme
• Based on a set of challenges that
• integrates with PHSE and Citizenship

Each challenge includes

• Roles and responsibilities
• Active Citizen
• Wider community
• Health lifestyle
• 4 sections within each component

Having a bad hair day

• Identify through personal experience their own
• "bad hair day"
• Illustrate by producing a puppet
• Chose one persons experience and devised a
• performance
• Involved discussion, team work, artistic talents,
• strategies for overcoming difficulties, build
• confidence
• Developed literacy skills through script writing
• Produced a CD of the performance

Positive outcomes

• Because of the diversity of the group there were
  different outcomes for each student
• Those previously not good at team
  workingovercame difficulties and contributed
  well
• Challenge gave opportunities for all students
  todiscuss and have an input
• Planning and reviewing their own work
• Stepping stones can then be mapped into keyskills

• Mixture of ability, those struggling, and new
  arrivals with little language skills

• Opportunity to achieve their first qualification
