History of Huntington

• The Purchase
• In 1457, the town we know as Huntington was
  purchased from the Matinecock Indians.
• Later purchases of surrounding land reached all
  the way to the south shore. (Babylon today)
• Revolution
• During the late 1700s, the Battle of Long Island
  broke out.
• The British took over the land with force.
• Continued resistant efforts from the locals,
  which ended in failure.
