Title: Classroom Procedures
1Classroom Procedures
2What is a procedure?
- Procedures are the steps that you follow to
accomplish a task. - Routines are procedures that you perform
regularly. - Rules are laws of behavior for what is and is
not allowed. - These make our class run more smoothly and take
away the gray area you always know what is
expected of you.
31. Teachers procedure for getting the attention
of the class.
- Most often when I want your attention I will
simply say Ladies and gentleman. This is your
clue to close your mouth and face me. Listen
carefully, wait until I am finished to carry out
instructions or ask questions. I will not shout
over you, if you do not become quiet (as a class)
you are using my time and will pay it back to me.
- I also use noisemakers to get your attention,
when you hear one, close your mouth and wait for
further instruction. The goal of a noisemaker is
by the time it is quiet, you are quiet!
42. How do I enter the class each day?
- Enter class quietly and calmly. Sit in your
assigned seat. You need to be in your seat
before the tardy bell rings. Get out your needed
materials and put backpacks and purses under the
table (not in the aisles). - Once the tardy bell rings it is SILENT time.
There is no talking. If you have a problem or
questions, see me, do not ask your neighbor!
53. What do I do once in my seat?
- On the board if you see Stamp Today put that
paper in front of you, at the edge of the table
it is now in the hands free zone. - On the board if you see Turn in pass that paper
to the center, immediately. - Get out your current bellwork and begin, on your
own - dont wait for me to tell you to begin!!
When finished be sure to have written your
homework in your planner. Remember, this is
silent time!
64. How do I complete bellwork?
- Each day when you enter class there will be a
bellwork question on the board. You will
maintain a page of bellwork in your science log.
For each entry write down the date, question, and
the answer. You can use your notes or book to
answer, but do not talk to classmates. - I always go over the answer with you, so be sure
yours is correct, you may see these questions
again! - Remember - bellwork is SILENT time.
75. How do I carry out a necessary chore?
- Necessary chores are things like getting items
out of backpacks or purses, sharpening pencils,
hole punching, getting a drink of water, etc. - All necessary chores are to be completed before
the tardy bell rings. Once the tardy bell has
rung, you belong in your seat. You are not to
leave your seat without permission.
86. How do we pass out and turn in papers?
- Papers are ALWAYS passed out and collected from
the center. - If you are searching for a paper or goofing off
it will be considered late. - Keep your homework in a place where you can
easily find it you will not have time to search
during class. - Do not mess around with papers that are being
passed out or turned in.
97. What do I do if I need to use the restroom?
- You may only leave class for an emergency. You
have two lifesavers per trimester. You can use
these for the restroom or late work. You have a
five-minute passing period,so use it wisely. - Misuse of the bathroom emergencies will result in
a referral to the office.
108. What do I do if I finish my work early?
- You have several choices begin homework, read,
or ask for more work. However, you may not
interfere with the learning environment.
119. How do you maintain your science log?
- Your science log is your key to success.
- On the board will be a running list of what
should be in your science log. It is your
responsibility to keep it up to date, in order
and completed. - Most of what we do will go in your science log
and be worth points at the end of the unit. - This is where you should go to review and study
for tests. Your log is points really easy
points, keep it up to date, neat, and together. - Science logs will be kept in the classroom after
each chapter, at the end of the trimester you
will choose the items for your portfolio.
1210. What do you do at the end of the period?
- The bell does not dismiss you, I do.
- Wait quietly and seated for me to dismiss you.
- We will wait until everyone is quiet. When
dismissed, push in your chair and exit quietly. - Place any trash you have in the trash can on your
way out the door.
1311. What do I do if I am absent?
- First, call your study buddy.
- Second, check the website, some (but not all)
will be listed. - Third, when you return to school check the Daily
Assignment log (DAL). This is your
responsibility. You will find all the
information you need in the DAL, including
bellwork entries. Extra papers are in the trays
next to the DAL on the bookcase. I WILL NOT
chase you down to complete this. - The only thing you cannot make up in this class
are labs, everything else is to be made up. - Make-up (absent) work is to be put in the basket
at the front of the room. Attach one of the pink
absent slips after filling it out.
14What do I do if an assignment is late?
- An assignment that is one day late is given a 20
score reduction. Even so, late is definitely
better than never, so get the work in. - Complete and attach a late slip to the
assignment and place it in the basket. - I will accept late work after the second day for
50 reduction.
1512. How do I complete a self diagnostic
referral?
- Self diagnostic referrals are used when you are
not following our classroom and school policies. - When asked to fill one out, take respectfully and
complete the form. - First offense will stay between you and me.
- Second offense will result in a second form
being filled out and going home for a signature
from a parent. - Third offense will result in a third form being
filled out and copies of all three being sent
with an office referral.
16How can you make Mrs. Niles really happy?
- Remember the 3 Rs responsible, respectful, and
ready. - Listen and follow directions the first time
given. - If you enter the class after the tardy bell, walk
in quietly and sit down. If you have a tardy
pass leave it on my desk. If you do not have a
note we will chat in a minute, just sit down and
get started. - Do not engage in a side conversation or activity
when the teacher/classmate is speaking. - No gum chewing, none. Be prepared to scrape gum
and repeat offenders will receive a referral to
the office. Likewise, no food of any kind is
allowed. Ants are a huge problem in this
classroom. - Trash belongs in the trash can. There are three
in the room, please do your part to keep our room
clean. - Chairs are for sitting only. They are not
gymnastics apparatus. Sit in the chairs properly
or lose the privilege of sitting in a chair.
Four on the floor at all times.
