Title: Ratiouric Street
1The day that never leaves my mind, crosses your
path now too. As you clamber down that hustling
street, think about the destiny I was about to
meet.
2I tripped and fell , my shopping thrown across
the street as hundreds of feet juggled by. But
within this parade only one single sole came to
my help. As I stood up he bent down to pick up
what was left. I recognised that face but did
not know where from, but suddenly my mind clicked
the artist I had admired stood before not the
shadow of the man that I thought he would be.
3Richard Yabahatsi? I asked as he stood to
receive thanks. He looked puzzled as if it wasnt
obvious. Yes, artist of adventure.
Yourself? Aileen Airewood, I am studying art at
Oxford. Once again he looked puzzled, I am here
on holiday, I thought you were in Jamaica
creating an new art form. I was, but I have
lost a critical member of my team. He looked
towards me inquisitively. Did you say you had
studied at Oxford, England? Yes, I am in my
last year, I hope to travel the world myself one
day. My hints became more and more blatant and
at last he understood. Would you like to talk
more over coffee? That was it I was going to
Jamaica!
4The next day I phoned home in search of my
fathers permission, as soon as he spoke his
expression told me the answer would be no. But
this would not stop me though, if one thing my
mother had left me it would be my sense to exceed
boundaries and the sense not to be held back. I
was going any way.
5Darkness crept into the cool corners of my hotel
room, as I jammed my life into one small
suitcase. My mind flooded with plans, to
disappear into thin air. Plans to run away with
Richard and his team, my plan to be famous, my
plan to take revenge on my father who had killed
all my dreams. But now I had to leave, I had to
run, I had to make sure my father wouldnt find
me not until I was ready. I grabbed my case and
rushed out of my room, trying not to think of the
life I was leaving behind, a life of luxury. My
feet stumbled as I ran into the lift, for a
moment I doubted the life I was about to begin
but my heart was set on the adventure. As I
stepped out of the mirrored lift, Richard greeted
me, that was the last time I ever felt
predictable.
