Academic Intervention Program (AIP)
  • The Academic Intervention Program (AIP) enhances
    the academic performance of students that are
    currently in academic jeopardy
  • On probation, academic warning, have earned
    deficiency points or have a grade point average
    below a 2.5.

Academic Intervention Program (AIP)
  • Within the RCC, we established a 2.5 cumulative
    grade point average (GPA) baseline to ensure
    students maintain academic viability at Temple
    University.

  • Increase in past academic performance
  • Enhance their personal development
  • Improve academic and personal skills
  • Improve confidence and motivation
  • Increase in retention
  • Increase in workshop attendance
  • Increase help seeking behaviors
  • Decrease deficiency points

Purpose of AIP
  • AIP is designed to help students develop and
    strengthen the skills necessary to be
    academically successful, along with increasing
    retention within the center. These skills
    include, but are not limited to study skills,
    time-management, academic discipline, and
    personal management.

Purpose Continued
  • The program is designed for the AIP Coordinator
    to have multiple one on one sessions throughout
    the semester with each student.
  • The individual attention gives the coordinator an
    opportunity to learn about the student
    holistically and to assist with the following
  • Restoring confidence
  • Increasing motivation
  • Establishing realistic academic goals
  • Increasing help seeking behaviors
  • Establish their belief system
  • Clarify personal, academic, and career goals

Results/Implications
  • The program has been successful with improving
    students grade point averages, developing life
    changes and increasing their retention.
  • Based on the results of the Academic Intervention
    Program it is important that students who are not
    performing to the best of their ability, in
    regards to earning a cumulative grade point
    average above a 2.5 should be monitored,
    evaluated, and given personal assistance.

  • The necessary assistance for eligible students is
    in the areas of academic and personal
    development. These areas should include, but not

AIP Eligibility Process
  • Cumulative g.p.a. below a 2.5
  • Earned a C during Summer Bridge Program
  • Recommendation from Summer Instructor
  • Volunteer for program
  • Must be registered for current semester

Declining of Program
  • Student must have one on one session
  • Must formally decline by signing form
  • Must have at least a 2.3 cumulative g.p.a.
  • Must inform Coordinator of plans for academic
    improvement
  • Must decline program each semester eligible,
    cannot indefinitely decline

AIP Process(AIP Coordinator)
  • Pull a report on eligible students
  • Review student information (holds, grades,
    sanctions, etc)
  • Send a formal letter to student informing them of
    their program eligibility 2-3 weeks prior to the
    start of the semester
  • Make appointments/Follow-up contacts

AIP Process Cont.
  • Students who have not contacted the coordinator
    by the beginning of the first week will receive
    an e-mail or phone call.
  • No response by beginning of second week receives
    a hold on their account.
  • Hold will hinder add/drop process
