The Many Things I Wonder About.

How long can a human go without sleep?
  • 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes is the record for
the longest period without sleep. (But thats
    just crazy)
  • Typically, a person can go without sleep for up
    to ten days.
  • After the tenth day it is almost impossible to
rest your eyes or stop thinking about sleeping.

3
Symptoms of the sleep deprived
  • Usually start appearing after 16-20 hours without
    sleep.
  • Lack of mental focus on complex activities,
increased irritability and the drooping of eyes.
After 24 hours, mood swings rapidly increase,
  • After a full 48 hours, there is a tendency of
    dementia and hallucinations.
  • Less adept at mathematical and verbal tasks and
    attention and memory suffer
  • Prolonged sleep deprivation also affect metabolic
rates and be more susceptible to obesity and
    diabetes.
  • The ability of a body to metabolize sugar will
decline and turn sugar into fat.
  • A persons immune system is weakened without sleep
and prolonged periods with lack of sleep may
    result in death.

Why does my stomach growl?
  • The growling of the stomach has to do with the
air within a gut. Your gut is a hollow tube that
    is lined with muscle.
  • The muscle contracts and serves to keep mucus,
remaining food, and bacteria from accumulating at
    any one site.
  • The contractions also produce vibrations when air
bubbles become trapped in the lumen.
  • The vibrations produce the growling noises
    associated with hunger.

5
In other words
  • My stomach is not growling because I am hungry.
It is growling because my stomach muscles are
moving back and forth on an empty stomach.
  • My stomach can growl at all times, when I am
asleep or even after I have eaten.
  • The louder my stomach is, the more empty space
there is, which means I should fill it with some
    delicious food.

Oh, The Appendix-Is there really any use?
  • The appendix is a tube that is connected to the
cecum, or the beginning of the large intestine.
  • There is no function. There is no known
    physiological function.
  • It most likely represents a degenerated portion
of the cecum that, in ancestral forms aided in
    celluse digestion. (Rodrigues, 2000)

8
Appendix
  • The appendix contains lymphoid tissues and may
produce antibodies, however, there is no
    definitive function
  • It is believed that the appendix will gradually
disappear in human beings because our diet does
    not include cellulose anymore.

This is an appendix!
